It was destroyed by people visiting from out of town; also see below. But regardless what a lazy sentence - is this considered edgy compared to “snowballs & Santa”?
Pejorative shots at Philly are so tired at this point. We are classic Mid-Atlantic "Kind, but not nice." As opposed to Southern / West Coast "Nice but not kind".
She lives here but can't describe a bad interaction with humans in her neighborhood, rather pulls out a cliche from 15 years ago related to a fvcking robot.
As an American, I did not experience this alleged rudeness when I was in London. In any event, the Brits stood up to Hitler for over two years before we got into it, so they can be as rude as they please.
I have been to both cities a couple of times and have had good experiences in both of them. London is one of our favorite places in the world to visit.
Hollllllld up, Arwa Mahdawi. Philly is rude because we smashed a robot 10 years ago? Maybe we just eschew cliches like the ones tossed around in this opinion piece. Philadelphians have a reputation for being rude, yes. In reality, we are very welcoming to human visitors (except at Eagles games).
Why do Americans expect residents of foreign locales to be their gleeful audience? Is so disgusting. Especially since we treat foreigners so poorly here in the States.
Why do writers visiting/living in Philadelphia think cliches are needed when they can't actually discuss human interactions in the completely different city from the subject of the article?
Middle Americans are passive aggressive and try to engage strangers in all kinds of weird mind games, and will abuse you for being "rude" at the drop of a hat. People living in big Eastern cities like New York, Boston and Philadelphia don't have time for that.
I lived in Philly, other than Stephen Miller, it was a good city to me. Most people are friendly. You do have a lot of crime, hope that’s not what makes it rude. I dated a Brit here in America. Her family in London treated me like shit and raised their noses to me. My two shillings worth.
Oh my gosh, the tube! I LOVE your transportation system! When we visited in 2022, we stayed about two blocks from the Earl's Court station, SW5. We bought our first oyster cards and went *everywhere* by tube and/or bus (an easy transfer for the Imperial War museum). So much fun!
I take it that the American family was in Central London where there's lots of tourists. How do they know they were experiencing 'cold' and 'mean' locals?
In Greater London where I live, people strike up conversations all the time in shops, on public transport etc

GO BIRDS
Was it meant to be satire?
No fake politeness, fake smiles and other nonsense.
I rather like that about those bastards.
Who in Philly is thinking about NJ?
a single act of vandalism means 1.5 million people are assholes to each other? this is garbage writing lmao
And very patient with young Canadians trying to navigate the tube. Much appreciated ❤️

Arwa lives in Philly and the only example of rudeness cited was a single bad thing that happened 10 years ago.
I call BS.
Can the many PAXU visitors chime in?
