TIL the Space Force logo is just a combination of the Lego Space logo, a Star Trek transmitter, a stock-image globe, and a few stars any child could draw

I still don't know the point of spaceforce, it's like Trump watched a movie about aliens and thought, we should have a space military. They made a branch, but no one knows what the hell they do, are we just burning money for this branch?
Knowing the culprits I would go for an extrapolation of a NASA Apollo logo, Pan Am 1970 logo, Star Trek Deep Space 9 logo, and the Starlink SpaceX Falcon 9 patch created by an AI image generator app... someone was watching too much Sci-Fi movies.
Interestingly, its minimalist design sparked a debate about originality. Some felt it lacked the uniqueness one would expect from such an important branch of the military.
Yes, they dropped the ball, where’s the creativity? I would have loved to design this thing, would have had much thought and meaning, but this is superficial, and very telling of how credible this branch of our military is. Now, it’s theme song though… ugh, yikes! Had to play that for Veterans Day🫡🤔
Starfleet was founded because the earth had achieved world peace so humans were free to work together explore the galaxies. We’re nowhere near that point.
Should have never formed the "Space Force" with the ridiculously named "Guardian." There was nothing wrong with it just being a function of the Air Force. More government shittery.
Space involves entirely different physics & warfighting doctrine than terrestrial air operations do.
The USAF didn't stay married to the Army forever and the USSF eventually left the USAF. Things change, and it was no longer appropriate for a large and expanding mission to remain with that service.
This department should have never been created!.... It was a scam by Trump to grift money for construction companies... We HAVE a Space Command, it is under the Airforce! I know because I was part of it when created.
Space Force: brought to you by the party for small government 🙄
By the way, because I cannot stop being “that guy” (this is why nobody likes me), I think by “Star Trek transmitter” you mean a ComBadge, but it’s more often just an insignia or, dumbed down for a wider audience, a delta. 🤓
As a former designer I can confirm that it’s a very simple logo. All gov. standards of larger divisions are usually tied together with the basic symbols but this bears none of them. It’s as if the whole department was made up for shits and giggles… or to funnel money.
I don’t have an issue with USSF. It makes almost as much sense as forming the Air Force made in 1947. Don’t let that it happened under a Trump Admin ruin it, as it was an idea that had been conceived decades ago. And as for the logo, I could think of worse things to ape than Star Trek.
Star Trek’s off center arrowhead logo predates the transmitter device with a similar shape.
I thought it was silly they had to tap the transmitter to begin a conversation when they could simply say “computer” while on the ship to get a response.
Space Force is also a critical piece of the PNAC agenda as set out in the document that defined the George W. Bush administration, "Rebuilding America's Defenses." Major media outlets never noticed this--they were too busy outraging over how 'crazy' Donald Trump was.
They were originally part of the Air Force that oversaw anything in space. From satellites to any offensive weapons that operated in the heavens above the earth.
I just want the name changed to something less cringe.
For example:
US Space Corps
US Stellar Service
US Space Guard
(Which would make the "Guardians" make sense)
US Star Command
(OK I couldn't resist, but it's less cringy than Space Force)
You're not wrong. Don't know if these examples are from the actual props department or just inspired by the TV show, but the Space Force logo is pretty much taken from these Starfleet Command United Federation of Planets designs.
You've got it backwards. The Star Trek "arrowhead" was inspired by the Air Force Space Command shield. The Space Force seal makes sense from the perspective of military heraldry 🫡
My goodness a lot of negativity here. Maybe put that energy in making a better logo to your liking, present your idea and maybe yours will look better. Or if you are not in the military and unwilling to serve maybe just let your opinion rest quietly on your tongue.
I have a friend who’s with the space force - formerly Air Force- and he actually was explaining to me how it is a good thing to bring together all of these resources under one roof.
Like air force space command, the command that existed before splitting resources into an entirely new branch that has almost no purpose? The Air Force already organized into specialty commands.
The Air Force coordinated resources that were spread out across other services- they weren’t all within the Air Force. It makes more sense to them in a single service.
Prior to that there was USSPACECOM in the 90s but then if I recall correctly they rejiggered the CINCS to be mostly regional with a couple functional and spacecom got dropped
It’s a money laundering. Scheme. Just like everything Dotard did and will do. He funnels money to himself or to his big donors. #TaxpayerMoney #governmentcorruption
Space Farce really is a huge waste of time and money. I don't understand how the Air Force could not have evolved to modify their existing mission to accommodate new technologies and challenges.
It's no different than the Marines being a dept of the navy. They specialize in Intel, satellites, ballistic missile stuff, and it's most likely posturing for the eventuality of more prevalent activities in space. They're compartmentalizing space into one branch.
Space domain awareness & battle management, electromagentic warfare, missile warning & tracking, cyber ops, space control, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, satellite operations, navigation warfare, orbital warfare and space launch. For starters.
Thank you for your informative responses in this thread. It's easy to criticize as many have done. It's honorable, but sometimes difficult to educate. I've had a couple family members in the Air Force.
A lot of space launch management, cyber security and data analysis. They also make sure all branches communicate together. It’s a great organization and talent generator.
I thought this was fake. Like it never happened. And once I was driving down Pacific Coast Highway around Santa Barbara and stumbled on an actual Space Force base. I nearly lost it with laughter.

It's probably a nod to Star Trek "delta" insignia, but calling that shape a "transmitter" demonstrates a woeful ignorance of Star Trek.
It's far closer to the NASA logo than the Lego Space logo, which Lego was also referencing.
What else is stolen by Space Force “Privateer” contracting.
What are the executive salaries paid for by taxpayers?
Eventually, navalists win out.
Then again, djt came up with it...
They renamed a department, got extra funding and was able to appoint new officers to command.
The first thing to go under doge?
That's what all that program is really about

Seriously, quit while you're behind.
It has a longer history than you do.

Well, except for the Lego part. Lego's too creative and robust.
Gene Roddenberry is turning in his grave
I grew up in Houston. We love pure NASA.
I thought it was silly they had to tap the transmitter to begin a conversation when they could simply say “computer” while on the ship to get a response.

Search "US Space Force song."
Open a new YouTube tab.
Search "Spaceballs: Jews in Space."
Hit play on both at the same time.
You're welcome.
We already have NASA and the NRO...
Would be well in place on the Orville!
So.....
