Oh yes, I saw this from a few different angles. LOVE HER!! All of Maori who were with her-loved the "We will NOT be ignored! & Don't mess with us." vibes. 💪
It was a group of Māori MP’s doing the haka, not just one individual.
First time many of us who are familiar with it have witnessed a true non- ceremonial haka.
This is what it was intended for- to declare intent to wage war or defend territory and intimidate opponents.
Just brilliant!!
Her and all of them that participated in that. I have a feeling that there's going to be a whole lot more of that hopefully in our Congress both houses.
First time I saw--or maybe noticed--Haka was during the George Floyd demonstrations. This is the first time I witnessed it as a political tactic for home- grown uses. Love it!!
She’s an awesome young woman. Youngest Member of the New Zealand parliament in 170 years. Giving the right wing extremists in our Government, trying to erase her culture, a piece of her mind.
Seeing the videos of her marching alongside the Māori queen was just as inspiring. (If you haven't read up about the new Māori queen too she's amazing)
The notion that abiding by terms agreed between the Maori chiefs and the British colonialists are "racist" because they don't apply indifferently to all New Zealanders is idiotic on its face and duplicitous in all intention. This is not a matter of identity, but historical and legal obligation.
I sent this full clip to friends and said democrats need to take note for future use when they are being railroad by political "norms" they choose to follow. Politics quit being normal a long time ago.
There is no comparison. One is a cog in the machine pitifully doing too, little too late. The other is a leader backed by the voices of her ancestors and her people in a powerful act of defiance.
This is 'kamate', a famous historic haka that marks an 1820 event near my home. It is not a 'war dance' but an expression of defiance, of beating death and returning into sunshine.
Its use in this context is appropriate. Māori have faced down worse attacks & are stronger than in 140 yrs.
Must be tedious getting anything passed when the former slavers and genociders of the Maori tribes just jump up and start doing their firepit dances when you introduce any bill.
I like that passion and fire. America needs to stop being sheeple and grow a real pair of balls like the ones she has obviously. No one got shot or killed either.
Her look of... how do I put this? Joyous Rage. A human warrior, confident in the justice of her cause.
Where's the emote thingy... here, this will do: 👩🍳🤌
No, it doesn't. It reneges on the rights that Maori were supposed to have since the signing of the treaty of Waitangi. Europeans were allowed to settle here on the basis of the treaty, quickly started ignoring the treaty and now ACT want to basically say it doesn't actually exist all all
Peter Ashford is correct. This legislation attempts to re-interpret and water down the rights given to Māori by the Treaty of Waitangi, one of New Zealand’s constitutional documents. These are constitutional rights for Māori being “interpreted” into irrelevance.

Thanks to her, the New Zealand parlimentary records will forever have "ok Boomer" in them as a responce to a nasty PM heckling her.
Do we know her name?
If you need to be reminded why it's a bad idea to piss off the Givers of Life.
I can get behind these candidates!
Hopeful for Te Parti Māori. I see big Hana energy in AOC and other Democrats. Hana is the youngest member of Parliament age 22

I see Haka- especially in this instance- as something that has no parallel in the American experience.
The left is generally better than the right at being loyal to their ideals, not the politicians who claim to embody those ideals
Pelosi does more heavy lifting before lunch than you do in a year.
It is now a default national anthem as the pre match battle cry of our national rugby team - beloved by kids & the nation incl those MPs challenged
She's a racist who faked a home invasion prior to the election.

✌️❤️😊
(Female Warrior)
The speaker was not amused, though :))
Haka is beautiful
