Yes, I understand that people who are citizens can in fact get deported. But that's different than creating a system for formally and officially deporting those who are citizens, as citizens, while citizens.

True, but the lawyers often need to say "IANAPS" (political scientist), and where the courts end up on these things is as much about that as it is abt the law--likely more poli sci (or the understanding of those politics someone like you has) than law these days, esp in an area like immigration.

"Can't" doesn't matter to authoritarians. When the gestapo knocks down your door and shoves you on a plane to El Salvador, it's done.

Even if you manage to get out eventually, you'll be destroyed by prison and your life/career will be forever ruined.

The UK had set up a similar deal to deport people to Rwanda. It was ultimately scrapped due to it being massively expensive & Kier Starmer got elected. I don’t hold much optimism for a similar outcome here however.

Back in the 1920-1930s America had a system for deporting Citizens they also stripped them of Citizenship. It was bad then it is bad now. It is Unconstitutional to deport American citizens or strip them of Citizenship. But I'm biased about that.
