you're right... snl *HAD* talented people, it's not some valuable cultural instutition it just got a lot of intertia from the writers and cast who DIDN'T suck and now are no longer involved with it
snl has frequent changeovers and completely remakes itself every decade or so. even if it's good now (arguable), it's never going to be to everyone's tastes. there is no objective marker for quality here. it's art. if someone thinks it sucks, it sucks for them.
It's been 50 years. SNL has been good, sucked, sucked except for two people, been good again, sucked again, good again, overexposed, good, sucked and good.
I've watched it on and off since the beginning and I can't say I'm a fan, but it's, at minimum, way better than it is bad. There were things I hated and then years that I didn't need to stay awake for it. But that's always been a group of great talents. And many great performances.
