Tuta has an old blog post about never using ai, wish they'd reiterate that as proton recently integrated ai "proton scribe" to read user emails client side and SERVER SIDE
For fuck's sake, all the dominos are falling one by one. I recently moved away from Google and Android, only to find out that Apple, and now Proton, are cozying up to that orange sack of shit. The disease is spreading!
They're supposedly better (or less bad) but I'm skeptical. Just didn't want Google in everything I have. I switched from Android to iPhone, from Gmail to Proton, and from Chrome to Brave. Not sure how much better it is but best I can do is try.
Holy fuck I've been using Proton for a year, great service. Will likely have to look for an alternative now. Andy Yen is a politically illiterate clown or a malignant tech demagogue like the rest.
tuta sadly has a known issue of locking people out and recovery codes not working. It happened to me day one. I don't really know what to do now. I'm in decision paralysis.
Ya it took them a day or so to verify me when I signed up, I think they are a smaller company and don't always have the resources to address issues like you describe. I had a problem like that with Proton (was my fault though) and it was brutal because email is so important for work these days.
Yeah I think we’re all making tough decisions right now. For me I can’t risk losing access to email if helping me get back in is behind a paywall. I’ve heard of people who never regained access & went unheard to the point of giving up so it’s just not for me.
Ya I've heard a bit about that, they do seem to have progressive views though so that's a big one for me. I'm personally gonna try the paid version at some point from what I've experienced so far.
Yes they do. I’d be wary of any company that offers a free service as vital as email but puts a paywall against meaningful customer support around their recovery code issue personally. To me it sounds like big tech predatory behaviour behind political opportunism.

And just like that, ProtonMail had lost all credibility as an advocate for data privacy and user protection.
I've already unsubbed, and cleansed and deleted my account. Fuck em. Bunch of evil cunts.
Probably another backup app that will be deleted…
Yen must step down
