Absolutely true. Capitalism works when there's real competition and a level playing field (no tax breaks just for the big guys). We don't have that. We haven't for a long time.
Is that really where we're at now. I remember when it was the top 10%, then the top 1%, now it's 3 people? Out of over 300,000,000? That scale is absurd. Eat. The. Rich.
It's actually not top 3, but rather top 15 or something, from what i remember. Of course, this doesn't change the overall message in the slightest. It's still ridiculous.
There's food insecurity in lots of places and there's outright food deserts in more places than not. People are about to get hungry when we have to start paying an extra 25% on everything we import. That's going to cause some problems.
To be fair he bailed out the farmers due to the impact COVID had in them to the tune of 12 billion. No problem with that, but here's the GOP slamming a 14 billion auto maker bailout: https://youtu.be/1PJpU-3lWwE?si=GrQoY0Ue79Dc24pR
It's more than 3 billionaires but that's about right. There are 800 billionaires in the US, a few more people who live very entitled lifestyles. But 300+ millions don't..

Oh, hell YES!!!! I was born poor and will die poor, but I'm rich in all ways except wealth. I have very little respect for billionaires. They, too, will die. Asi es la vida y la muerte.
Me too....but have you ever reflected on just how many of OUR leaders are million/billionaires? Most of the House and almost all of the Senate....so I ask myself.... really, how do they feel MY pain...and the answer I get is disheartening....They really don't...they can't... they're wealthy...
In Europe, people are happy to pay more in, so that we can all benefit for a better, more fair system for all. Even if it means you need to pay more than somebody else. In the end we all live together so we have to look after each other.
No system is perfect in europe they have huge problems & everyone does not have equality
No nirvana & there is wealthier enjoyoyment just the same
That is life Itβs not Fair
You see I see people without refrigerators shelter homeless crippled begging on the streets no retirements the world is bigger than the US&Europe so letβs hope life would offer more equality to many hungry
I think you are defending europe comparing it to the US both are great
Countries others no
We agree to disagree
Iβm comparing to other parts of the world
But here we have friends who own & europe unless you are wealthy they rent
At the end in all parts of the world itβs the ones who have & the ones who do not have
But compared to others there us so much help
And donβt forget that we are the only first-world country without universal healthcare, and as a result , the ONLY first world country whose maternal mortality rate is RISING instead of steadily fallingβ¦ the ONLY one!
We are United, we have a union of states, but we don't have to be, we aren't stuck there, we can dissolve the union and tell Trump and krew to fuck off.
Iβm going to my grave with many regrets but being a poor tipper is not one of them.
I always tip 25% or else $5.00, whichever is greater. I do this for delivery services, wait staff, and everyone else who is in a service line and cares for me.
Tipping goodly amounts is generous, but it's a problem if the service person is being underpaid. Like philantropists; they get praised for spending money on the Arts - that they could just as well pay by taxes. But they'd lose control, bit like tippers.
Just pay people properly and tax the wealthy.
Realityβs a bitch. If I refrain from tipping the people who are working hard to perform a service, who is in the United States a class of worker whose wages are derived from tips, I shortchange the service worker.
Wage theft is rampant & not tipping is wage theft for tipped workers.
No, make their employers pay them a fair wage. I'm tired of my taxes and tips subsidizing big corporate profits. And by the way, if you add the tip to your card, most of these companies are not giving it to their workers. They are donating our tips to charities for their tax write offs!
I am a plaintiff's employment discrimination attorney. I know the wage and hour laws. I have brought wage theft cases. I know that the best world would guarantee a living wage. This nation does not mandate a living wage.
You cannot penalize workers for laws beyond their power to change!
I tip 20% at my normal lunch location because I know they get it. Not true at a lot of fast food places. Maybe you should look into it and start a class action.
An amorphous class of all tipped workers in a state, or across all states, cannot be certified. The class members must be similarly situated. That's not the case here. Add the class action waivers & mandatory arbitration employment terms & it's DOA
Where I work, the tips are calculated automatically at close of day and all credit card tips are 100% declared by the servers. Cash tips are a percentage of their sales.
The IRS applies estimated income to tipped workers. Tracking tips made electronically is ongoing but the IRS still presumes income greater than that which is reported.
Yes, I'm aware of that. Which is why the IRS should also be investigating this practice. Under paid employees take the tax consequence for a big corporate tax break. Not only unfair, but likely criminal.
In restaurants at least, a percentage of cash tips must be claimed. They do not just pocket the money. Itβs actually a percentage of their sales. And where I work, the servers make very good wages.
My base state bar admission is Missouri. The wait staff are anything but well paid there, or in Arkansas, Kansas, and Iowa. Illinois is the only state adjoining MO that has stronger wage & hour laws for wait staff.
Hard to tell, I know they are crazy and unpredictableβ¦ I find it hard to believe even they would stay βcivilβ why they get screwed with the rest of us.. however I feel they would attack the wrong people, than facing the actual cause of the problems. They donβt wanna be βwrongβ.
On January 20th AND May the 4th (be with us) do nothing to spend a dime. Suggestions: Do not drive, buy gas, turn off breakers except for fridge and life-saving devices, no phones, take the day off work without pay (no tax 4 1 day), if possible.
Go for a walk, go jogging, read a book.
No taxes to the government for a day. No utilities for a day. No groceries for a day. No gas for a day. NOTHING all on the same day. Protest spending any money. If they don't get it, we do it again on another day, then again, and again.
If all of the resistance that has thousands of followers can get the word out maybe we can do what other countries do.....TAKE BACK OUR COUNTRY FROM THE RICH BASTARDS!!!
Except for Mark Cuban he's one of the good billionaires.
Notice the the billionaires gathered around orange Jesus.
That was out of fear that the huddled masses were getting restless except for the ones that were suckered into cutting off bloodflow to their tiny brains by a tight red hat.
I do which is why I think that itβs so weird that Americans donβt embrace more socialism. And how come slapping the π·οΈ socialist, communist or Marxiste is so effective when whatβs being offered is a policy that distributes wealth more equitably?
At what price? How much does a society have to sacrifice for those things? What do we need to do? Have a war? Stand up and pound the sidewalks for our rights? Or lose some freedoms to receive healthcare, education, home, and love whoever we want. What's it going to take?
How do we live in a world where this might be considered even remotely controversial?
An uneven extremely skewed distribution of wealth and resources to a few people doesn't help society as a whole. It is ultimately unsustainable, especially when rulers continue the abuse.
11 families own over half the world's wealth...it's an international thing and they meet every year to discuss how to get richer. I don't think things like the Forbes & Times Rich Lists help, as it encourages competitive hoarding...and breaks economies!
A lot of people don't want to take steps to change things because they believe that one day the billionaire could be them, they refuse to wake up to the reality that it would be better for all to raise everyone up to a fair middle ground
Revolutions don't happen in a vacuum. Americans are so scared of the word "socialist" that they ended up electing a corrupt fascist billionaire "twice" because they somehow believe that he can close the income gap between the "elite" and them. How naive of them. Enjoy watching that gap grow bigger.
The basic principles that this country was founded on have been eroded by Citizens United and the hostile corporate takeover of Congress. We no longer have a representative democracy for the people, who are entitled to it by their tax dollars and vote.

Billionaires arenβt anomaliesβtheyβre the endgame of capitalism.
Capitalism fuels endless desire for βmore,β no matter the cost.
Billionaires profit by concentrating wealth created by everyone elseβs work & the exploitation of nature.
Their existence exposes a system built on inequality.
100% - and despite what many wealthy people think as they refuse taxes and hug their wealth closer. Inequality is bad for all of society the richest included. Taxes are the price we should be happy and proud to pay back into the country that nourished us as a price for civilisation.
It's a requirement that a pRESIDENT of the Once United States of America πΊπΈ had to be born in America, a naturalized citizen could not run for pRESIDENT!! It didn't say a TREASONOUS UnAmerican BILLIONAIRE naturalized citizen couldn't BUY a pRESIDENT!!

In a nation of egocentrics, where nobody wasn't to pay any more than they absolutely have to, that is not going to work.
1/
I don't think this idea sells in the US.
2/end

Always in evolution
But other countries are not perfect
Either
Average salaries are higher in the US for sure. But on just about every other metric you can think of, life in Europe is better.
- Life expectancy is higher.
- People get more holidays.
- People work less hours.
1/
- University education is generally affordable.
And considering US debt to GDP at 140%, European debts are comparable.
I think people in the US live in their own US is super bubble because many never go abroad.
