this list is compiled based on being someone who gets a lot of views on YouTube, and seeing how indignant people get over very minor and frivolous things
Horrendous AI take Austin. All AI isn't bad yes, it's just generative AI that's dogshit, but that doesn't mean gen AI isn't complete dogshit. It's a probability-based plagiarism machine that doesn't know anything except what pixel or letter is most likely to come next. Absolutely useless and a waste
Austin, I know you're probably busy but please clarify this when you have the chance. Where you've listed people who hate AI among a list of people that are "sensitive" about "frivolous things" what exactly are you saying? Is it Gen AI or like AI in games? I don't wanna make assumptions pls and ty!
My assumption is that "people who don't like Celsius" will also be on this list, so next time I make a video about meteorology I'll use Celsius and we'll see. I'll keep you posted!
Just use both. Europeans aren't familiar with Fahrenheit and Americans aren't familiar with Celsius. Some group of people will enjoy a video less if only one scale is used.
I mean I would heavily PREFER if we exclusively used Celsius and Metric in general in the US, but it would be like issue #325 or more down on my list of things to get unreasonably upset about. I know 32F is freezing, around 72 is perfect comfort for a lot of ppl, and over 100 is hot af. Good enough.
I work with computers and they read temps out in C by default so I have gotten good at doing conversions in my head. I love to see how flustered people get when I say the temp in C instead of F for things. Good, make their brains hurt.
But seriously. Freezing point is 0c and boiling point is 100c. It's a literal heat percentage scale that everyone can understand, the Fahrenheit system used in one nation is a mess, same can be said for the imperial system too, hit update, America. on many things <3
Yeah but this is only true in some places. In Denver water boils at 95c. A scale that's only meaningful in some places is a shit scale. Fahrenheit is more subjective but at least it's equally subjective everywhere
Rip up the entire system the world uses for Denver, aw hell nah. This is just one of those crazy things that I guess just works for America only, like medical bills and country music.
It’s not that bad, and also, that’s a % scale for water.
If you wanted a 0-100 hotness scale that is how hot it feels, that’s Fahrenheit. Both scales have their drawbacks and benefits, and you will generally prefer what you grew up with. It’s really not a big deal
It's true but the world has adopted Celsius as the default for a reason, along with the metric system, it works perfectly 100cm in a meter, 1000m in a KM, same with kilograms, such an easy to understand system, Fahrenheit is like trying to understand ounces and inches.
Your use of AI chatbots and shrugging it off, especially in the climate of an essentially omnipresent deluge, is super lame. I was gonna sub to your patreon yesterday so I checked your bsky and decided against it.
no one wants to "kill him for it", people are rightfully put off by the usage especially since in his latest video he alluded to climate change. I don't want to support people with my money that use AI uncritically.
Seems like such bullshit,no way take 20-30 Google searches to find anything, I'm sure slough can be found by googling. Makes me wonder that if the over explaining is covering up scripts being at least partially AI helped. I don't use scripts in vids, feel speaking off the cuff gives a human feel.
I love your stuff and think you're a stand up guy but I think you've had a terrible take on AI and the defense of it, the 20-30 googles to get to the same answer AI gives is ridiculous.
I see a dozen other responses from people raising pretty reasonable concerns about AI usage. Choosing to zero in on the one that's rather conspiratorial and then claim its why you can't talk to *anyone* about this is pretty dubious. Like yeah, you're always gonna get some unreasonable people too.
Tbf, google search is pretty dog shit right now :/ you can have a question and it'll just show you 30 products and unrelated threads.
I think its fair to use gen AI for questions (that youd ofc have to check sources on after). Its really tough to find vocabulary you dont already know w/ reg google
My understanding is that training Gen AI models is where the real environmental impact occurs, not using it for text answers itself? Ive found mixed things on that though. Im glad to hear hes not using it for an artistic point at all though, that was my main concern.
I'm not watching the video, despite watching all his other videos, because AI is a deal-breaker for me, but I opened it to look at the comments and couldn't find one person complaining about the AI. That means he's deleting/hiding all the comments calling him out for it. Disappointing.
I disagree with 2. It's the people who support AI who are the most sensitive people ever.
No, I don't wanna use your blobby thing that's supposed to be a truck if you squint at it and take acid
Ai sucks, but that’s really an extension of capitalism sucks. I would love to write all day, but I have to work a job while chat gpt doesn’t, so it gets all the writing gigs (and does a mediocre job while wasting tons of electricity and wate in the process).
I'm just astounded that he sees his community as a bunch of sensitive people on the internet for not wanting to support the plagiarism machine that destroys the ecosystem. Heartbreaking. I would never do this my own followers.
Here's hoping it's a bit presumptive to think he supports such use of AI. There are good useful AI modeling things in chemistry, biology, etc. LLMs can be good in use for some code-analysis to my understanding. That said, I do agree that AI that steals art needs to be dismantled.
It depends. Hating the current wave of LLM AI which is just designed to output something that sounds/looks good with little or no regard for truth or accuracy and is built on the backs of TBs or PBs of stolen data. Yeah. But in general, AI does have its uses. For example, AlphaFold is (1/2)
I dunno whether a group trying to control others, a group who doesn't like a messy system of measurements but doesn't really hurt anyone, and a group who likes their planet's ecosystem functioning and writers' work respected is a terribly coherent list. Or in other words: This take ain't it
Man if you wanna play around with a chatbot for laughs...well whatever. But if u can't get why people are "sensitive" about something that's threatening to destroy entire industries, costing creatives their jobs, all while plagiarising their work...yikes! That reflects real bad on you as a person.
Comments
1) conservatives, generally
2) people who hate AI
3) people who don't like Fahrenheit

That's literally not true. It's impossible for it to be true. "How hot it feels" is literally subjective.
the first image is the question we wanted austin to answer, the following images are his answers/relative info

AI could save the world and cure cancer.
Companies are using Generative AI to try and take your job or at least make it redundant.
Doesn't that bother you?
I was happy with the inclusion of two Canadian locations in your comparison list.
But disappointed that Celsius was absent in the video.
And let me be clear. I didn't even notice until I saw this post. So I'm retroactively disappointed.
Celsius: good for food temps
Canadians: Got it, Fahrenheit for food and Celsius for air
