I'll keep saying it until people in power start listening:
It's not social media that is primarily causing mental health issues for young people.
It's the material economic conditions they face and then see/express on SM that causes it. (healthcare worries, cost of living, unaffordable rent etc)

One of the most prominent voices boosting policies like Meta's sensitive content restrictions is NYU professor Jonathan Haidt, whose dubious book, The Anxious Generation falsely ties social media use to teen mental health issues in order to push a moral panic about kids and technology use.

I get the impression that the data on SMs role in childhood social development and mental health is not yet conclusive either way.
Haidts taking a swing. But to summarily dismiss it as moral panic now.. that's a swing too.
