BREAKING: I have seen confirmation that the indefinite puberty blocker ban for trans kids that was passed by the NI Executive yesterday will be UK-wide. It will come into effect on January 1 2025 when the temporary ban expires.

It is being laid before Parliament today.

At best this will force another generation of trans people into needing surgery and psychological support for the damage that puberty does to their bodies, at worst this will kill trans kids.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if Streeting and Starmer are hoping for the latter.

What makes me sick the most is knowing that in all likelihood, there will be no one in positions of power opposing this. Do not expect any MPs to stand up in the commons and call out this hateful policy, do not expect any pundits to stand up against it, do not expect any of the clinicians to say no.

It will never deliver anything of use.

i have taken the stance that they will do pretty much anything for one less bad headline *now* over more in the future. they know that signing off on anything trans-positive, particularly to do with kids, risks bad press in the tabloids.

The dubious pretext that a medication generally accepted as being safe for cis children might suddenly and inexplicably become poison when given to trans children, and therefore must be selectively withheld from them alone, is an absolute scandal.

Also just to add to this, it grossly tarnishes both general public and minority community confidence in the scientific and medical establishments when a government wields them so crudely and brazenly as a cudgel to justify vicious ideological persecution, ignoring all expert advice to the contrary.
