Script: Cousin, it's your beloved cousin [NAME]. I hope you are joyous and filled with the spirit of Thanksgiving. I know you plan to fry your turkey this year - a delicious and dangerous endeavor. Please fry your turkey away from your home on a firm, flat surface.
[Script continued] Please also remember the words of our Uncle [NAME] who once profoundly said, "There are more home fires on Thanksgiving than any other day of the year and unattended cooking is the number one cause of home fires. Stand by your pan so you don't burn the house down."
Oven = tastiest method I have EVER used for cooking a turkey! Add 2 cups of white wine, 1 cup of chicken stock, 1 tbsp of sugar, 1 tspn of salt and your herbs to your roasting pan and spoon it over the bird every 45 minutes it will make THE BEST skin. 🤤
Asking for my sanity, do these turkey frying kits not have an oil-level-too-high interlock on them????? I know people are dumb, but these things are kits! That you could even have the opportunity to lower a turkey into a 20gal drum of boiling oil is insane.
These warnings are crucial when we cut so much education funding. Adding frozen ANYTHNG to hot oil will cause an instant reaction. Not to mention oil displacement when the turkey is added. If it was just the idiot's property destroyed I'd be okay with it - but they're risking other people as well.
I never understood how people could think that lowering a frozen turkey into incredibly hot oil over an open fire is a brilliant idea... #darwinwantsaword
Overfilling the oil, not paying attention to the oil temp, cooking indoors, & dropping frozen birds, AKA things you should never do, are what cause almost all of fryer fires. If you're not a dumb ass redneck with ADD, you can fry turkeys just fine.
Texted this to my cousin and he called me a liberal pussy and said he can burn his house down if he wants and doesn’t need the government telling him what to do. Needless to say he’s a moron.
I think you may be overstating the risk. There haven’t been any cases transmitted via consumer animal products, only in people who work with livestock. And the 50% number is high because mild cases don’t get identified.
That said, sensible food safety practices are always a good idea.
No, haven’t read her until now. I mean, I certainly think close monitoring and intervention is necessary. That said, I feel confident handling raw poultry the same way I always do - separate utensils, clean surfaces, cook to measured temp.

It’s easy not to blow yourself up.
Just don’t be stupid. Follow the directions. Don’t overfill your pot. 🤷🏻♂️
IDK what temp their oil is but I've never had that reaction when dropping a frozen chicken or 3 into the oil (using a basket).
When done right everything is evenly cooked with the skin seared to lock in moisture.

Did not set home on fire, though.

Stop frying food.
It is notoriously bad for you.
I can hear your arteries clogging from here.
Wear PPE when preparing - gloves, mask, eye protection.
Disinfect every possible touch point - counters, plates, utensils, sink, faucet, oven handle

This year, I won't have poultry, until H5N1 is eradicated.
