Good morning hereβs a mushroom photo my son recently took. She pops up every year by the pine tree. A little conversation pit for the fairies. πβπ«

Even if you do know things about mushrooms, sometimes it's safer to pretend you don't and just look! π€£ I wish I could find these growing in my yard!
P. schweinitzii is named after Lewis David de Schweinitz, a Pennsylvania-born Moravian minister and important early American mycologist. The dyer's polypore is an excellent natural source of green, yellow, gold, or brown dye, depending on the material dyed and the mordant used

Your son took a nice capture
That colourful fellow is "Phaeolus schweinitzii" which is a brown rot fungi that effects the roots and the base of Pine, Spruce, Fir and Cedar trees.
Like most fungi it's just part of nature's recycling process, but I would definitely get your pine checked out by a tree professional.π²
Best of luck!
Here's a fungal foto of mine from a while ago.
Iβm sharing with many folks.
Super cool.
Sweet pic!
Mushrooms & toadstools never cease to amaze me. π
