Highly highly recommend her kits if you want to get started with goldwork, everything was so beautifully wrapped and presented, perfectly clear instructions, great quality materials. Probably the best looking thing I've ever bought off Etsy.
I stumbled on a yt video about goldwork and instantly wanted to try it! You actually stitch fine coils of metal (which can be gold-plated) onto the fabric using embroidery thread. There's a few kinds of metal coil you can use. Here's the video that got me into it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRkDtGu0ryQ
The kit made it so much more approachable! Meant I didn't have to track down a heap of different materials individually just to give it a try. Definitely recommend :)
I would say this kit was fiddly but not difficult. If you have some experience with hand sewing, cross stitch, embroidery etc then it's quite a small step to apply those skills to the metal pieces.
A mix of both! I think the metal coils are usually plated with a thin layer of low-carat gold, and there was some gold-coloured thread and some fine gold wire.
Love it! Such a good choice of design.
I just want to boast about my wife's gold work she did for coursework at Royal School of Needlework.
The design is based on a Japanese lucky dog.
Damn. Thatβs beautiful and I want to buy her kit. Of course, Iβm currently working in polymer clay, off loom bead weaving, painting, paper earrings, clay jewelry, teaching classes and watercolor. Maybe if I narrow my sleep time down to 4 hours. Thanks for sharing.
