Look at the ranking of democracies by the venerable Freedom House: https://freedomhouse.org/countries/freedom-world/scores?sort=desc&order=Total%20Score%20and%20Status. Canada is rated one of the 5 most democratic countries in the world. The US, meanwhile, is ranked 59th -- and faces grave hazard of demotion.

I'm a Canadian (living in the US but a Canuck at heart). I want no part of Trump's idiocy with Canada or anywhere else.

But I have made this same point - in jest - about the plan being terrible for the GOP, presuming it would be 10-13 new states, not 1. That's a lot of new, liberal senators.
