I am slightly too young and only an ally, but I have read MANY, MANY articles from people who were there over the last 35+ years of adulthood.
Marsha P. Johnson, Silvia Riviera, Miss Major, and others were/are trans.
These Queens lived as females, and cops targeted them not because of specific drag shows, but because of how they dressed.
