It used to be so much more fun before the follower count skyrocketed huh? Seems that most of us (esp. women?) have felt and gone through the same. I used to be a lot more active there before, too. Burnout affected me, but also all the mentions that had to disagree with pretty much anything!

Are you optimistic that Bluesky has a different set of values than previous networks, or do you believe that all networks lose kindness and helpfulness as they scale?

I’d like to believe that a kind, helpful network can exist at scale if its immune system works hard to reinforce its values.

At one point on Twitter many years ago, I started gaining “a lot” of followers consistently and it made me so excited. And then I saw people I know irl who have 10k+ complaining about how even their most mundane posts caused a ruckus, and that really demotivated me from trying to get followers.

I went mostly dark ~7 years ago. But now trying to figure out how to use social for business stuff because it’s the majority of peoples’ time. Necessary evil of having a career/business in 2023 is learning to deal with it in whatever way you have to. 🤷‍♂️
