i think we have created enough art about the beatles. there is already a lot of art that is about the beatles. the beatles created a lot of art, too. i think we can stop making new art about the beatles.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I think this hinders new art and new directions. We need to stop being force-fed the Beatles and Paul can turn down a gig on TV once in a while. It's cannibalizing time and resources for the next generation(s). Now the Stones on the other hand...
Did you see the end of SNL 50, where he thought someone was giving him an award or something weird like that. There's a reason he changed his songs to McCartney/Lennon #iblaspheme #staydown
the actual problem i have with art *about* the beatles is that most of it really fails to capture what hellraising radicals they were. why would anyone my age think of them as trailblazers when it's all just glory days AI nostalgia shit?
This is really an interesting point. I've never been a huge fan of the Beatles, and always tried to understand that people my age can't necessarily understand the exact impact they had when they were new. So I've hesitated to call them overrated because of that
I don’t see what the new movies could add unless they go fully into the gay rumors between John and Paul. Which I doubt they will, since Paul is still alive.
I see your point but I’ll always love the Beatles and look at/read/listen about the Beatles. I love watching people discover them for the first time. They wrote Blackbird and refused to perform for segregated audiences and we need more of that 💩 right now.
if we need art about a group of friends that split apart after one of them starts dating a real buzz kill, may I suggest a story about every group of female friends in history?
🤣 As I mentioned on the guy's thread, I went through a "Beatles are overrated" phase in college. I guess I was saturated. A year or so later I happened to listen to the White Album again, on a long drive, and that made me decide "OK, I was wrong"
Even if you don’t “get the fuss”, I guarantee that at least half, if not more, of artists you currently listen to are either directly inspired by the Beatles or on the Beatles “inspiration tree”,
IOW they are inspired by artists who were inspired by the Beatles. Art isn’t made in a vacuum.
no i think it's the prevailing opinion, precisely because of the way that paul mccartney has extracted every single cent out of the band's legacy, making them totally benign. it's not you, it's him.
Compromise: maybe they were the first “best”. Like Babe Ruth. Did things that, compared to their contemporaries, will never be duplicated in how great they were for their time. But also, their work as is from the past doesn’t hold up to the advancements of our time.
