YES. Have you watched any made-for-TV Christmas movies the last couple of years? They crank out so many, I suspect the writers and directors can do whatever they want as long as the context is Christmastime in a cute village.
It's simply that you need a hook and a murder mystery is the oldest hook in the book that works quite well as your only requirement is a killer at the end you could even not know who did it as your writing until you hit that eureka mome.
I'd say that's probably fine, but in that case it might work best if the end of every conversation you have is punctuated by some sort of sting or music cue, a la LAW & ORDER.
I spent so much time trying to figure out what “Fire walk with me” meant. I researched. I studied. I felt like such an idiot when I read an interview years later where he casually said he basically just made everything up as he went.
I forget what show or movie it was, but it was absolute garbage tv and the only reason I finished watching it was because I wanted to know who did because they al were guilty. It wasn't Clue, Knives Out or an Agatha Christi work either.
Best case study I've heard on this is Basic Instinct vs Showgirls. Both are about "women act like crazy bitches in a misogynistic world" but one of thems also about solving a murder.
This just reminds me about that anecdote from White Lotus about how HBO made them add the cold open that reveals a mysterious murder because they didn’t think anyone would watch the show without that as a hook lol
Yes! I’ve never seen ‘The Fabelmans’ but I remember it won awards & Michelle Williams is a favorite. I can totally see Lynch in that role but I don’t think the art on his walls would be horseback cowboys in a landscape but who knows w him. Maybe vigilante cowboys in some Lynch/Dali type mashup.

As long as you have CHARACTERS
People will follow characters everywhere
(That last bit is me either playing an L&O ringtone from my phone, or saying the words “Dun Dun”)
Even…. murder?
Also, David Lynch would’ve made one hell of a guidance counselor.
Perfect timing for a movie pitch smh

I drew this tribute the day after he died.
