Steve doesn’t seem to understand what rule of law means. I does NOT mean charging gun and tax crimes that no one else is ever charged with that doesn’t have the last name Biden. This is a just pardon well within the rule of law.

Trump single handedly brought down the “ rule of law” in the U.S. with the help of SCOTUS.
Biden pardons are legal & follow the lawless threats made by Trump & his corrupt & criminal admin.
The Trump DOJ will be looking to prosecute. They won't particularly care if the evidence will support convictions, the point will be to charge their enemies and drag them through the courts. This has ALWAYS been Trumps tactic.
Pre-emptive pardons are the only way I can think of to circumvent this.
I really wish the left wouldn't defend this pardon. We should be fiercely condemning it to prove them wrong. It is within the law, but it is also abuse of power. He made his own bed. Please don't move the goalpost.
Gun charge: Republicans feel everyone should have a gun so why aren't they protesting to free a gun charged man ?
Tax charge: Republicans cheat on taxes all the time shit the V.P. Elect DJT don't even pay taxes half the time. They also feel taxes are bad for themselves so why aren't they protesting
I disagree Mr Schmidt.
You can't play by the queens rules in a street fight.
Besides the fact that this pardon is legal, I love that Joe is showing courage in the face of your kind, and did something very justifiable, but because it has bad optics you show disdain.
🚬😎
So Steve, you would have Hunter Biden be subject to the corrupt administration that is coming in? I am also sure you haven't forgotten the pardons 45 issued. I am also sure you are aware Hunter was the victim of political chickanery. So take a seat on this one.
Everyone said Steve Schmidt is great, he founded The Lincoln Project and he’s one of the sane Republicans. And I told everyone don’t trust him, leopards don’t change their spots. And, here we are.
I'm old enough to remember when GOP investigated Benghazi seven separate times, with each investigation yielding exactly squat.
F*** Steve Schmidt & his bad take. The rule of law has always been a weapon to men like him, rather than a vehicle for pursuing fairness & equal justice.
i think at least 50 % of the talking heads on television just like the spotlight and being part of the main cast. Especially the ones who have done this for decades like him, the "Reagan conservatives" aka the people who are in the most denial
Actually, sentiment and bias analysis have been around for a while. If we can get the @latimes.com reporters to post their stories on @bsky.app , with the open firehose, any academic or researcher can analyze everything they post.
Radicalization takes root by repeating misinformation until it "sounds true" only because enough people have brainwashed themselves and project it on others.
Steve - had always been a bit blind to reality. In 2016 he dissed me for saying Trump was bad. He still is wrapped up in Reagan bullshit. Read this https://www.stonedpony.org/why-i-hate-ronald-reagan/ when I hear someone say I am a Reagan conservative I think - he started the destruction of America’s middle class
People do not have much of a problem with the pardon. The problem is the Trumpy justification for it following repeated assurances he would not issue a pardon. .
I used to respect Steve...a whole hell of a lot. But after his VERY PUBLIC, RABID obsessed call for POTUS to remove himself from the race (it WAS a good move) I started to see him as a self-righteous, pompous prig. I am now CONVINCED that that is exactly what he is. And then there's THIS...
I would like to note that I have been corrected and the attachment here, which I cannot seem to remove, is incorrect. Carter and Bush did NOT issue pardons to relatives.
Carter and Bush did not issue pardons for the relatives. Just an FYI. And when Chris Christie says the trial of C.Kushner was one of "the most disgusting things I have ever prosecuted in my life" you know shit was BAD.
Thanks for the correction. I DID check on it and will remove my attachment. And, yes, I heard Chris Christie on the issue of dear leader's daughter's father-in-law. Scum!
If all Democrats and Biden staffers at risk of Trump’s political targeting stood together and said, “I’m willing to go to jail or die,” it might be seen as valiant. But how can we expect lives to be ruined for doing the right thing all along?
I agree. This was never about the law and relieving Hunter from it is ok with me. As long as Matt Gaetz and a number of other GOP all-stars walk free, Hunter should too. I am also very keen on Joe giving Leonard Peltier the same grace.
What Steve REALLY doesn't understand is a presidential pardon is well within Biden's rights and NOWHERE in the Constitution does it say the decision to do so must not ruffle the feathers of ANYONE.
There is hypocrisy on the left and right (much more on the right). Pardoning his son is not a good example of it. First of all, this is the act of one man, not an entire political party. Secondly, Joe Biden should have never made the promise to not pardon his son to begin with.
He did not “make a promise.” He said he wouldn’t, but he didn’t make a sacred vow and promise on some personal level. If I say, “I’m not going to eat any cake,” then I end up eating cake anyway, I’m not lying or breaking a promise to some person. I did not intend to, and then I did. That’s it. 🤷🏻♀️
I kind of wonder if the real rage here is that he had the audacity of pay back the taxes he owed without wasting time in court trying to avoid it. The real crime was the lack of criminality, and his willingness to pay for his misdeeds without feigning total innocence.
Yes it's just.
The scales of justice are balanced.
Not putting the power of the Gov't into a just prosecution (No one is above the law),
Is just as bad as
Targeting someone with the full force of the Gov't, when others less famous haven't seen that level of persecution.
For crying out loud. These idiots voted in a 34 count felon, adjudicated rapist and insurrectionist to the presidency. I keep picturing their own intestines leaping up and strangling their brains. (Thank you Douglas Adams).
Making that statement in the same environment where it is clear that Trump is weaponizing agencies is beyond pathetic; Steve seems to have a problem with reality.
If the law were supposedly applied equally, most (if not all) the people in congress would be in prison for tax crimes. I have no doubt they've paid late and/or missed a box here and there. It's worth a penalty, but not prison.
I remember at one time actually liking Steve Schmidt. Then, he abruptly changed and it was definitely not in a good way. I unfollowed him over on the bird site and never looked back.
I'm so glad conservatives like Steve Schmidt and Tim Miller have such high opinions of the morals, ideals, and values of liberals and liberalism. You'd think it might make them question their 'conservative values', but nope.
Why should Democrats follow the rule of law when Republicans have abandoned any law at all and do whatever the hell they please! About time the Democrats step up and start to fight!
AG, the larger tho related issue so many do not understand is that the details of hunter's cases and how they were mishandled and prosecuted, completely outside norms and clearly for political purposes, are PRECISELY why the founders established pardons. MERCY! JUSTICE! prerogative of the president.
and all the pearl-clutching about hunter's pardons comes from corners where djt's unforgivable pardons and crimes are overlooked, ignored, justified, rationalized, normalized, etc. ad nauseam. "justice for me but not for thee", i guess. 🙄
Lets turn the conversation on whom Trump pardoned such as Bannon for milking maga getting money for a fake wall build. …. but heck lets clutch our pearls over Hunter Biden who true crime was his last name.
This dude is way off on this. Biden is a lot of things, but dumb is not one of them. I think he knows what Trump plans on doing, I think his moves are never haphazard. Steve can fuck off with his pearl clutching. His child was not in Trump's crosshairs.
He and others in the media are mad bc the continued prosecution of HB was an easy story to write with good ratings. They are upset that now they'll have to work for the ratings. The Rule of Law is the furthest thing from their mind.
Why do/would true Democratic Party voters really give a damn about Steve's opinions - he was all-in in unseating a sitting POTUS' 99% automatic re-election nomination.
The difference between taking the high ground and declaring, “this far and no farther.” Every indication is that MAGAts would have continued to persecute HB. Between Patel’s hit list and the House show hearings, the president had every reason to fear for his son’s welfare. Sad, but the new reality.
He could also concern himself with his OWN moral compass. Who’s check is he cashing this week? Political consulting AND love for sale, it’s not as catchy a tune.
Oh my god I have never seen a politician change his mind before, that would be unprecedented! Please!
Also if you can’t change tactics in the face of fascism you are in the wrong fight!
Why are the standards and ethics different for republicans, we are held to a higher standard, while they vote in a felon, they can keep their outrage and shove it up their ars
I can't think of a single winning campaign this guy has be part of in the last 30 yrs. Mr. I couldn't bleed millions more from the Lincoln Project so I rage quit. Did he even finish his conversion to Judaism yet?
One of these days those who lost the 2024 election will realize that sometimes the only way to take on a bully is to climb down into the trenches with them and duke it out. Fighting from the moral high ground doesn't necessarily win wars when the other side is playing dirty like MAGA does.
One side can't be the only side to believe in the Rule of Law. I bet Pete Hegseth owns guns, and it sounds like the way he drinks and abuses women he shouldn't have been allowed to purchase them. Rick Scott stole billions from Medicare - no jail. https://marketrealist.com/p/rick-scott-medicare-fraud-explained/
Exclud impeachment, the President's pardon power is Unlimited.
The only mistake Joe made was to be so adamant that he wouldn't pardon Hunter.
He'd already paid the taxes & admitted he lied on a form. The plea deal was fine, till repubs cried.
Joe protected his family and good for him.
Fuck SS
He’s always been a MAGA. Just like Bulwark. You will never convince me otherwise. It’s why I don’t follow TLP or Republicans Against Trumpism…bc they are NOT ever about democracy.
I think the Bulwark people are just genuinely confused and full of themselves and keep wanting to keep the ol reagan era gang together, but they dont have a team anymore. Cognitively Dissonant IMO, egocentric, but not evil. Just wrong
The Bulwark people/Reagan conservative types? I don't disagree that they're full of shit but I also don't think that they realize that they're full of shit. My opinion is that they're under a self delusion that they know what they're talking about because they keep getting invited on TV
Steve doesn't seem to understand that he burned any good will with everyone when he showed his true colors and ran to represent a third party candidate.
I guess he believes enough time has passed and people have forgotten.
After Stone, Bannon, Kushner, Flynn and the rest of the 144 pardons, 237 executive clemency and the campaign promise to pardon the Jan 6th rioters I don't really care who Biden pardons and I call less about Schmidt
I think we need to pay attention to the people who are going after Biden for pardoning Hunter. They're trying to split the democrats. Why would they do this in such a pivotal time in our history? I don't trust any of these people. They're the same people who wanted Biden to drop out.
Schmidt is a Republican arsonist. He has never stopped being that - he's just played other roles for money now and then.
Don't believe him, don't trust him. This applies to many (if not most) of the so-called Never Trumpers. They're Republicans who don't like the Trump stink. They're not friends.
Steve is a grifter like every other R, current and former. His descent in rage baiting is unsurprising. He’s generally unprincipled and out of touch with reality in both politics and American lives.
This is exactly why you can’t trust any of these supposed country first republicans. We did t get here by accident. They built the road that tRump rode in on.
That is EXACTLY THE SAME as raiding the capitol during a vote, lying about election results, nominating a known child rapist and felon, and helping him end American democracy by appointing other traitors, racists and rapist.
Potential Pardons by Joe Biden: Recently, President Joe Biden has considered issuing preemptive pardons to individuals like Dr. Anthony Fauci, Rep. Adam Schiff, and former Rep. Liz Cheney, who have been targets of criticism and potential prosecution.
It is Federal Law that Democrats must maintain institutional norms, never color outside the lines, and be civil at all times to a strongman and his minions right on up until the time they are sent to the camps.
The Schmidts of the world really aren't reading the room in America, on this, are they?
You seriously can't believe the garbage you are spouting. Trump's election and with his nominees who have hit lists with his son 's name, it as well as other's. It would have been stupid for him not to pardon hi m. This country just elected a felon. There is nothing Biden could do to top that GAL
Steve can suck on the rule of law all he wants... everything points back to Trump never having abided by the rule of law during the last eight years...
There's a term used in pro wrestling for that moment when a good guy shocks the audience by betraying us and going over to the other side. It's called a "heel turn."
Steve Schmidt on Packman trying to say gen X don’t vote and dislike the pronoun generation. Which are our kids and our kids kids. He needs to STFU and go back to being a Trump loyalist
All those people crying Biden pardoning Hunter. why he chose to do this.? Maybe because FU. Maybe he got some intel that we DON’T know about that that might have been extremely threatening or deadly. We Don’t know and I don’t care!
They should admit they are secretly maga
Are we still going on about this. Joe wasn't going to pardon until Kash Patel was put up for FBI. That man has an obsession with hunter. He was only targeted because they couldn't get anything on Joe.
Tell patel to get in touch w/comer as he also tried for 2 yrs and has all the doc to not show.
These Never-Trumpers are all losing over this. Even Tim Miller.
They don't understand that there are no rules or civility anymore.
Trump and Co. have made sure of that.
Next up, domestic terrorism from the left. The GOP swears it's a thing, so why not?
Because Trump's win completely changed the narrative and the perspective on justice and the rule of law. His threats to prosecute his "enemies" are deadly serious. Thank God President Biden knows that. And he has acted accordingly.
Now that the election is over, some of the former Republican Never Trumpers are decrying the dangers of the "far left". As if the USA is in any danger from them. Schmidt deserves respect for his work but, we should question why he finds it necessary to bash the Biden family at this time.
I don’t care what anyone thinks or writes that voted for the pricks who got us here. He was the first to drag that uncivilized cow from Alaska to the scene. Like a true recon, he can’t stop digging.
