Merrick Garland has been terrible as AG. He has delayed, obfuscated, been inactive and slow, and did not use his office to do the kind of crisis control we needed. I know the wheels of justice turn slowly, but Garland put sand in the gears and now look where we are.
Honest question. What does it matter when the laws aren't enforced there are no punishments so we might as well just know the truth irregardless of whatever our kangaroo Court judicial branch does
Merrick Garland is not protecting the Rule of Law …. he’s pontificating about what’s ‘proper’ & HE’S THE WORST AG IN HISTORY! @democrats-judiciary.house.gov @democrats.org
Damn right. I wldn’t trust him to do the right thing under any circumstance. 4 years. He had 4 damn years, and look where we are today. Garland shld be investigated.
Upon appointment of his SCOTUS and full subservience to him by the GOP, trump was guaranteed never to be held accountable. Endless appeals to SCOTUS before, during & after trial, same for sentencing. Put the blame where it lies, the American people, our neighbors, co-workers & family.
You've been misinformed. Garland did a ton of stuff before the committee and before Jack Smith was appointed. Here's a non-exhaustive list of what Garland did. He started the week he got there. Actually, it started before he got there.
The docs case wasn’t ripe 2 1/2 yrs ago. IMO the AG was too cautious on the 1/6 case. But it’s erroneous to think trump would ever serve time. Even if convicted (just 1 MAGA juror) & if the obese, burger chomping 78yr old outlived appeals, no judge would imprison a feeble minded geriatric ex-POTUS.
Expecting Merrick Garland to do the right thing at this juncture is a big ask. It would require him having a fraction of a conscience. So far I see no evidence of that.
…Or a sense of responsibility or accountability , Garland and Gaza will be Biden’s glaring Black hole of incompetence or complicity , however you wanna slice it.
Garland will go down in history as the worst, most ineffective Attorney General in American history. His reticence & fear at appearing “political” single-handedly destroyed our country & handed Trump the election. He chose to focus on Hunter Biden’s “crimes” & not the worst CRIMINAL in USHistory.
They are trying to get the reversal of Cannon’s ruling regarding Special Council. They cannot have this ruling stand if any DOJ is going to use Special Council proceedings.
Don't wait for Garland. We've seen how that goes. Plus Smith's departure will add even more chaos and delay. Biden should pardon both of them, then order immediate release of the reports. Rights of the defendants will be off the table.
I was pleased when Garland got his appt to AG. His character is beyond reproach. He exasperates me though with his timetabling given Nov 5 election approaching. I believe he would have made a remarkable Supreme Court Justice where time is of little consequence for making decisions.
The only thing we can count on is that garland will be derelict in his duty right up to the instant he’s out of office. What a catastrophic failure to deliver for the people.
I previously defended Garland, believing he was making sure all I’s were dotted & T’s crossed! Unfortunately time has shown it apparently was nothing more than dragging his feet to avoid what needed done! The clock is ticking loudly for him to salvage something of what will be his ultimate legacy!
The AG sat on his a— until the January 6 Committee published its findings and embarrassed him into doing it he job he should have started at the start.
I see that now! I always try to give people benefit of a doubt until they prove me wrong! The issues, from the criminal(s) to those in positions to hold them accountable who instead enable & protect is mind blowing! Looks like TFG’s ineptitude & crazy may be the only thing that eventually saves us!
Agree 100%! All one needs to see is the media, judiciary, corporations & those with power choosing to bend the knees to placate TFG! The few who have chosen to fight for justice are heroes & are the only ones with courage! Unfortunately they are few & far between! Pray the rest of us can survive!
I don't pray and I've pretty much lost all hope in humanity. I'm hoping that it's not as bad as I fear it will be. That's about all the energy I have right now.
A lot of this is Merrick Garlands fault. Even from the maga perspective the way Trump was treated showed he was innocent. Garlands method of justice is voting apparently.
That's a clip of me talking about election security. 😆
24 years of computerized election hacking are the rest of the dots -- each election cycle bringing more right-wing craziness, only broken by a financial crisis and a pandemic.
Jonathan Simon wrote a whole book detailing the "redshift" of computerized election system's since the HAVA act of 2002 gave money to countie to buy computerized voting systems.
Allison and Andy have brought us fresh eyes on the trump ‘deny, delay and distract’ ploy since the get. I deeply appreciate their studious and professional approach. 🎉
Joe should have appointed Sally Yates instead of Garland. She's got big brass ones, and I'm not sure he even has a pair at all. Whatever the weaker thing to do is, you can count on Garland doing that. After the last 4 years, I'm glad he's not on SCOTUS. He would have rolled over there, too.😾
Garland is a judge and not a prosecutor. He wasn’t a good fit and Biden appointed him because he got the shaft from Marbles in his Mouth Mitch McConnell. #sympathyappointment
Good for him. That doesn't make him the bulldog that Joe needed in this moment to be able to hold Trump accountable. At the end of the day, he failed miserably, and we're all going to pay the price.
I was reply to the uninformed poster that said Garland had no experience as a prosecutor. Setting the record straight in a time where statements are untethered to the actual facts. Dangerous times.
Doing the “right” thing never pays when dealing with the new-right. It’s like trying to house-train a grizzly bear; it won’t work, you’ll end up covered in 💩 at the risk of getting mauled.
Sadly, it seems Mr Meek has already played his sad hand. His role to kick it down the road so as none of his Fed Society buds got implicated worked to perfection. That dump skated was just extra icing, I guess
Top dead center. You can bet his brain can't operate under secrecy, which means he doesn't know it but he gives his shadowed secrets away constantly. No guise.
He bitches about everything but his minions and allies won't come up in his bullshit stream.
Now that the government has fallen into autocracy, they don’t need to pretend that they actually ever cared about us or the country. I doubt we’ll see the report, and if we do it will probably be more redacted than not.
Donald Trump ———— the —————— in —————. His ——————————— for ——————— and ————.
I agree with the disappointment but for AG I’m a Sally Yates fan. HRC is more of a foreign policy person now. Plus HRC is a lightning rod for right wing hate that would complicate everything she tries to do. Yates is almost unknown to the right wing and as a Georgian might be more accepted.
I appreciate your point of view. I don’t know much about Sally Yates, but I’ll trust your opinion about her qualifications.
My HRC suggestion is based more on how tenacious she is and how she wouldn’t have waited over a year to get shit done against the traitors beset on destroying the U.S. 🤙🏽
I appreciate your views as well. HRC is certainly a great choice for any high level government position. I just thought Yates might have to endure fewer headwinds. I detest the way HRC has been mistreated by the “Right “.
The ruling class is divided, but both sides are still part of the ruling class, not the working class. They do not share our interests. They are like brothers that squabble, but remain family. Obama sat next to Trump at Carter's funeral. Some call it classy, I say it's dining with Nazis.
He’s fumbled so much. I had so much faith in him and the butterfly affect from his dpt will cause many to suffer. He knew an indictment was in order. Many other countries made the right choice and this guy failed us. He failed us all.
Thank you AG for your constant attention to our political health. I followed your ‘homework assignment’ and asked Merrick Garland to release the full report asap.
Why does this report need “released”? Is it locked up? Why doesn’t Biden give one last gift before leaving the White House?? Let everyone read the damn report!!!!
Trump was adjudicated guilty of Insurrection 3 times, CO, Maine and in the House Select Committee on Jan 6th.
SCOTUS returned a biased judgement for trump, saying he had to be tried in Congress. WRONG, and Garland should have weighed in with:
"The 14th never says enforcement requires congress"
Court documents. Public reporting. Here's a list of the stuff he did before the committee was in full swing. This is a non-exhaustive list based on publicly available documentation and reporting.
We do. Court documents and reporting show everything he did. Plus there's likely a ton more he did that we don't know about.
@muellershewrote.bsky.social
He does not have the testicular fortitude to drop both the reports. Hopefully the insurrection one gets released. He's a bloody coward. Part of the reason we're in this position all of us around the world and the US is because of him. Maybe he can grow a pair and do the right thing for once.
The list of people responsible for the demise of our democracy is very long indeed. Too many are eligible for the number one spot to rank them. Every one of them are 💩.
It would be better if Biden just pardoned them. He doesn't need to give a reason, but "It would make a mockery of justice for Trump to prosecute his codefendants, who did what they did in full cooperation with him" would be a pretty good one.
Merrick doesn't intend to release either report. He wants to make it look like he will do so, just like the rest of his charges that failed too. If Biden orders Garland to release them. we will see them. If not, they will be destroyed by Trump.
Court filings show Garland does intend to release volume I, and provide Vol II for review to the chairmen and ranking members of the house and senate judiciary committees, per Jack Smith's recommendations.
AG, do you have any idea when the 11th circuit might realistically rule, thereby greenlighting Garland to release Vol. I? We talking a day or two or like post 20 JAN?
Garland is the biggest disappointment of the Biden administration
He did absolutely nothing
He had the power to do good things but choose to be a spectator
What a waste

I've sent my 3rd message in as many days. The last was a little more direct.
If you can't send a message, please call.
Respectfully, to those who don't much care about VP, I used these words as an inspiring call to action, as that which is important right now is having Garland drop the charges for co-defendants, so we can see both volumes of Smith's report. Thanks.
I appreciate this sentiment but she missed a tie breaking vote to keep a republican off the NLRB board effectively screwing all labor movements for years to come, so I guess she threw up her hands instead? The democrats are so cooked, we need a labor party and they ain’t it.
I would really prefer that Nauta and de Oliveira experience justice. If for no other reason than to demonstrate that 34F has no use for them and will not give them any help. Plus they can force him to testify...
which has caused me to completely change my view of Barack Obama and Joe Biden, sadly. Obama thought this guy would be a great Supreme Court Justice? It leaves me thinking the whole system on both sides is just completely corrupt.
When it came time for bold legal action needed to save American democracy, our ridiculous attorney-general came up small. Distinguished by a deficiency of testosterone, Lady Garland will go down in history, alongside Benedict Arnold, Vidkun Quisling, and Neville Chamberlain.
NO dropping the Espionage case! Trump’s espionage rivals that of the Rosenbergs and spies Hanssen & Ames. His release of nuclear secrets to foreign nation led to killing of CIA informants and Russia’s Ukraine ground invasion plan. Killed countless.
Exactly. Marc Pomerantz wrote his book detailing Trump’s tax evasion (a crime) in his book. NY then sued Trump and won its case. The evidence was CRYSTAL CLEAR.
The BOXES of classified at Mar-A-Lago, Trump’s REFUSAL to return, and his REVEALING to foreign nationals already PUBLIC knowledge.
It’s REMARKABLE Judge Cannon’s saying it’s NOT a crime. It IS a crime. One for which similar “inside agents” Robert Hanssen (FBI) and Aldrich Ames (CIA) got LIFE IMPRISONMENT. Trump REVEALED nuclear secrets to foreigners. CIA Informants killed. Putin invades Ukraine.
“Under color of office” Trump secretly stole U.S. nuclear secrets.
@sethabramson noted Trump began COLLECTING classified after meetings and sending it to his private quarters as early as spring 2020. It was PREMEDITATED.
Used known spy craft: dead drop. In his HOME: public golf resort in FL.
And it WORKED. Trump re-elected. After 2021 theft, Russia RAMPED UP its disinformation campaign against Biden/Democrats. Republican Congressmen/Fox News BROADCAST it 24/7.
Russia sanctioned for its election interference. Spewed propaganda designed to turn Americans against their own government.
The fact that Trump CAN force the AG to drop the case IS the problem.
It’s WHY it’s important the case go public. Trump
WILL destroy any evidence of his crimes once he’s in office. If NOT public now? They will never be known.
Expect he will destroy the Russian investigation, too.
Serious question:
Can Convict Trump be impeached after reading BOTH volumes of Jack Smith's report?
I know we don't have the numbers, but after midterms, could this theoretically happen
Come on, Merrick. I've had your back and defended your wimpy responses for the last 4 years. Grow a pair, will you? Really, what have you got to lose anymore?
Donald Trump stole America's top secret records and took boxes and boxes and boxes of top secret records and when the government asked for them back he refused to to return the documents
The worst AG when we needed the best. His appointment was a grievous error by Biden. Trump should have been in handcuffs within minutes of landing in Florida at the end of his administration. Huge failure by the DOJ.
If the evidence doesn’t get released it will disappear. Shame on Garland and Biden for moving slow on prosecuting Trump for his crimes. Now we are in real danger.
Absolutely. Trump will make the case and then the info disappear on Jan 20. Drop it, release the report/s. It is another case of Trump escape and little guy eats it.
True. The next DOJ can prosecute after Trump leaves, for a second time (hopefully he leaves. I am not confident he will), because we know he will be taking more boxes of classified documents to horde in his bathroom at Mar-A-Lago.
If there even are any history books left off the burnpile in the coming years, AG Garland will be recorded in them as the man who chose courtesy over justice, hesitancy over the American People, and tacitly facilitated the obliteration of the Rule of Law.

Merrick Garland is the biggest disappointment in the History of the US Department of Justice.
His failure to properly charge and prosecute MAGA's dear leader may have cost this nation its democracy, as it surely crippled our judiciary.
Shame on this incompetent coward.
#resist
Maybe he can catch a ride with Fetterman..
He torched our democracy

So please, let's all be sure and Do something today.

And he had opportunity after opportunity after opportunity (and good reasons) to get Cannon taken off the case.
And did nothing.
They don’t bother doing
The right thing when it comes to the left.. quite the opposite
But Trump needs a pardon too. Felon in Chief is kinda embarrassing.
A cigar for you, sir.

A lot of us, I'd say at least a quarter of us, didn't particularly like her centrism.
But we held our noses and voted for her anyway.
Democrats are actually appealing to about 25% of the voting population at a maximum.
Neoliberalism has failed.
I just did
