While I so enjoyed "Conclave" with Ralph Fiennes whose performance is a clear standout this year, Timothee Chalamet as Bob Dylan in "A Complete Unknown" is this year's best acting nod for an Oscar. He became Dylan in a performance that could've easily fallen prey to parody.
Oddly enough, Conclave was great & Fiennes gave a great performance but he wasn't a standout for me, as the performance is somewhat subdued. Timmy is certainly a standout though. I'm watching this actors rave very closely.
It had the most post-modern unsatisfying ending. The acting was superb up to that point when the script writer decided to be ambiguous and grinding hard on their ax.

I can't say I saw a single movie I thought was great this year, including Conclave. Cinema seems so boring and lazy lately. Juror #2? Just predictable. Haven't seen Nosferatu, but hoping it snaps me out of my 2024 movie funk. Otherwise, a poor year for film.
I mean we watched the whole thing? Which we usually don't if something sucks so we were mildly interested waiting for a big twist with a huge secret and...
He wasn't a trans was my opinion? I'm not going to claim to understand but I think he was born as a boy, raised as a boy and then found out that he was a hermaphrodite and since he had lived like that he continued on?
I mean yeah. But it wasn't really a twist to me. I mean I got the initial shock but when the priest explained it... I absolutely think he did the right thing. He's not trans. He was just born with both sex organs ( at least that's how I took it ) so it's actually NOT that big of a twist.
