Out of curiosity, is anyone gonna criticize Kendrick for using the flag in his performance, or were we all able to understand the nuance this time? đź‘€

Instead of asking a Black man to do free labor for you (in Black History Month about a performance highlighting said history, no less), why not seek out the numerous people who have already done so?
I learned awhile ago that Kendrick is SUPER thoughtful on his performances and art & every decision he makes has a reason, often subversive, behind it.
Absolutely, from start to finish and if people didn’t catch that it’s because people are uneducated and not taught to think critically about anything, which needs to be fixed asap. Imo it was a call to arms.
That whole thing was a really big criticism. He was expected to deliver patriotic tropes and colors and he did…but he subverted all of it under blacktop/prison yard lighting and had Samuel L play Uncle Sam while playing/mocking Uncle Tom trope. Even Serena Williams Crip Walking was critique.
My 7th graders and I watched it in class and they understood it was a symbol. I explained how it could be interpreted & told them to look at the song that played. The entire 13ish minutes was more than just a “show”, it was a message about the “game” being played in this country. He’s a genius.
