"Right now, then, Farage seems to be seen by many of his jubilant supporters as the messiah. But on policy he’s always been more of a naughty boy. That needs to change – and perhaps more quickly than he’d like." Me for @lbc.co.uk

We know what's going to happen: Reform will screw up in local government and Farage will blame central government - you might as well start writing this article now.
If Reform stick to their mini-DOGE policies of slashing council spending and crushing what services remain, if may serve as a warning about what they would do to the country in government.
Populism appeals to the bad side of people. It wants us to be mean when we should be generous, to hate when we should love and to be divided when we should be united. It very much defines “us” by exclusion.
Some of us are torn. We acknowledge the failings and timidity of Labour. Yet we are also tired of a political-media class which still treats the far Right as new, plucky insurgents.
Many of us are sick at those who burn the forest down (by voting for austerity and Brexit and Johnson and Truss) but then blame the next government when there are fewer trees to distribute. Maybe our anger should be the story for a change.
The Reform 2024 Manifesto had massive tax cuts and huge public spending increases
I'm always surprised there isn't more scrutiny of this
We know his party is full of dog whistle racists, that's already factored in and his voters don't care
The attack also needs to be on economic competence

Ppl like hearing there is someone lower down the rung than them & Farage is the man to keep that in place
And to teach priorities
Most of us are better than that.
We have a pro-Reform media that is also hostile to Labour.
Changing things will be difficult
Next bit should be interesting.
Labour needs to tackle the media
