About 20 years ago my neighbor was a good friend that ran with me every morning about 5:30am. Some of those mornings were bitter cold, like 0 degrees cold, but if his porch light came on, we bundled up and hit the pavement!
1/1/18 -8Β°F at the start of a 5k. So cold my phone shut off lol. Also the race director was offering a $ discount = to the temp at the start. We joked he was gonna pay US to run the next race. π€£ #runchat
I think I ran in 0Β°F once, and in single digits a few times. It usually doesn't get that cold here, so it's been awhile. I'll usually choose the treadmill under 25 when I can! #runchat
Several yrs ago, I ran in the Hyannis Marathon, which takes place in Feb. It was snowing for the whole race. Part of the time, I ran w/another guy from Minnesota for mutual safety, & cars were splashing us. At the finish, I ran past the finish right to my hotel shower, didn't thaw for another hour
Oh probably 4Β° or something like that with windchill. It was ridiculous but a group of people 100+ were meeting to run/walk to show someone support. #runchat
The year I trained for an April marathon had me running in temps that were around +/- 10 degrees w/ windchill. I learned just how effective old wool socks worn as mittens are at keeping my digits from freezing off. Also, merino wool base layers are pricey but worth it.
Not sure I can say exactly what my coldest run was. There used to be an internet challenge of 10 miles a day for 10 consecutive days. I did that a few times. That involved ice buildup on my jacket. Also had it cold enough to have ice on my eye lashes. Not fun.
