Maybe I'm just rambling about hypothetical definitions about words that don't really matter all that much. It just feels like it'd be useful in someway

You could probably construct some kind of “griddedness” measure. It won’t distinguish by density but will by prewar/auto era street layout. Or some kind of walkability metric, though those inevitably work better in wealthier areas

Maybe a good metric could be percentage of land that's impervious? When I think "suburb", I think that's what comes to mind - a lot of grass
