And now, after Trump’s dictator-like move in the U.S. yesterday, he signed an executive order granting only the attorney general or the president the authority to interpret laws executed by the executive branch.

I don’t think the new EI requiring government lawyers to interpret laws based on what Trump says passes muster under any state bar’s rules of ethics for lawyers. Lawyers are supposed to exercise independent judgment.
Is anyone surprised by this?
Hey USians -- isn't there something in your Constitution about defending against a tyrannical regime? Around about Amendment Two, I think?
We can barely convince our population to make fucking phone calls though. I do my best to not get angry about it publicly, but some days I want to swear at people in these comment sections.
The inaction of the people will kill us faster than any tyrant.
And, of course, Trump being a famous passer of the Bar and legal expert himself, what could possibly go even worse than this? 😒
He wouldn’t even pass a mental health and psychiatric evaluation for the job he currently has!
My public education taught me that the Judicial Branch interprets the law, the Executive Branch carries it out, but I’m just a poor white guy in the middle of nowhere, what do I know….
Because we're in real news censorship mode now. It's a sad day when you have to turn to the National Parks Service (or what's left of it) to find out what's really happening in your country.
I’m glad some of us are still trying to be informed to prepare what is to come. Hopefully we can awake the zombies and get the country back before it’s too late. Good will win in the end but it’s going to be a fight !
So how is someone who is not a lawyer let alone a judge qualified to be the "only" person in the country to interpret laws? Hopefully that will piss off a judge or 3.
Because people in govt. keep acting like EOs override existing laws. It's not how it should be, but it's how people are acting. Like they're official decrees. DOGE came from an EO, remember
It's sure what the prez thinks they are. And if nobody challenges it - or loses that challenge - is he wrong?
😀🙃🤪So NOW, after all the shenanigans to get a conservative court ecen THEY are being neutered??? No Congress. No Supreme Court. Just KING MUSK and his sidekick Donny The Felon.
Welp, prolly not Loose Cannon & Kasmaryk, trump's specially selected stooge appointees. I do wonder if Roberts, Sammy, Clarence, Blackout Brett, Handmaid & Gorsuch are self-aware enough to realize they made SCOTUS obsolete when they made trump king.
We aren't screwed yet. But the inaction of a huge swath of the American citizen population is certainly helping speed this up.
We literally spoon-feed ways to help to people and the number of folks willing to do anything is incredibly low compared to the actual numbers we have on our side.
Truly. The day it passed, two things became clear: (1) they never would have bestowed so much power to the executive if they thought anyone besides T would hold office, and (2) we big fucked
Dictator-like? I think the word you’re looking for is Dictatorial. He isn’t “like” a dictator. He is a dictator. The slide is over. We’ve arrived.
Thank you for your historic and ongoing resistance. It isn’t too late to defeat this F*sc!st dictator.
I feel like that executive order doesn't matter as much as people think. It's flagrantly illegal. I almost can't imagine the courts not saying so. So, if he's obeying courts, it will be overturned. And if he isn't obeying courts? He can do that with or without this executive order.
(not tenant: our taxes pay his rent, and he even gets an allowance, which he already didn't need and even more so given how much his crypto coin has made since he got inaugurated)
I can’t remember did he say he was gonna turn down his president paycheck again this time to appease the fucking dumbest of us who didn’t realize that he went golfing for 3 1/2 years out of the four that he was president and there was a pandemic in there and we paid for all of it
Posted on https://whitehouse.gov The President and the Attorney General (subject to the President’s supervision and control) will interpret the law for the executive branch, instead of having separate agencies adopt conflicting interpretations.

tomorrow hopefully a mummy.

President? FUCK HIM, I don't care! Ignore his BS 'orders.'
'The law is what I want to be' goes both ways, if he's intent on destroying rule of law.
Any bets on Clarence Thomas? Alito?

The whole issue is, the court system doesn't move quickly enough to put a stop to any of this. He knows it.
And he should resign because he just failed his oath of office
Surely, the current SCOTUS is not so enthralled to the Orange occupant of the White House, that they would reverse THAT decision.
i accidentally typed "to get us through the presidency" at first and that was a funny as fuck freudian slip lol

Unless the feckless MAGATS in congress and SCOTUS let you.
Insane times we are in.
Who's gonna take any actual action to disabuse him of the notion?
