Idk, seems like quite a lot of posting going on still to me. Glad its a little quieter than the mass onboarding day, gotta find time to get some work done around here.
splitting my time between this and masto and twitter still plus slack/discord/whatsapp/telegram/instagram, plus oscillating between writing three documents
I'm trying to build up real conversations--as much as humanely possible. What's on your mind @vgr.bsky.social or anyone here? Open floor. Human discussions here 👇
I think it's too ephemeral for people who succeeded on twitter. lack of robust algorithm means posts get initial surge of engagement and then fall off cliff.
🤷♀️ big posters gave it a try and went back to their bigger reliable audience, lurkers stay lurking... I'm trying bec I'm quite sick of Twitter and yet don't quite want to give up all my friends...
There was a big party when we doubled the user count and people tried it out. Then we slowed down invites and it’s the new regulars hanging out at the bar
Functionally this has been excellent for the team. It put us right at the limit of our available time while giving great feedback
We’re using the time now to actually finish the protocol and core product, and fix all the things we saw broken, and lead into the next party that’ll be 2-10x times bigger but hopefully keep the excellent vibes
A rush of people are coming in. It’s a blast but we’re at the door just barely keeping ourselves standing. And people are coming up to us like “having a great time just so you know all the cups are leaking” and we’re like “cool cool cool”
Like you’re the band and you’re focused on your set. You wanna talk to the crowd cos they’ve made the effort to come. But they’re asking all these questions. And all you really can think about is “Is the equipment ok?”
Good vibes by definition will likely be temporary associated with fewer people making things more intimate and people being more aware of their words / behavior. The real trick is to give users control over maintaining the environment they want
Because Bluesky are hosting this iteration of the platform. They’re also building the AT Protocol, which means that in the future, people could move their account/data to other iterations of the platform, all connected like a web. The other platform might make your name https://lash.redsky.social
Also, you can verify your username using your own domain. Since my website is https://shemah.co and I own that domain, I could make my username https://shemah.co instead. That’s why you see people around here with different domains in their handle. It’s a way for people to verify their identity, like a blue tick.
Is there a way to know how many of the users are not programmers and just a regular people like me walking in the streets taking a look into the programmers days?
Huh Such a great feeling! Hey the other 4, please introduce yourself! I’d like to not feel so lonely here and feel the only one doesn’t understand some of the language used 🤓
I looked at the Reddit sub and they were all griping about people with non-programming backgrounds not deserving to be on here. They were also salty about not getting invite codes. Glad I’m not the only “unworthy” one here! I’d have given them an invite code, but not that that energy.
Not a programmer here, though I’ve done small software projects and most of my working life involves code review, I just do better at breaking than building
That’s Jobi with the white/gray fur. He is the bestest boy. The gray one is Mia and she is wanted in The Hague for war crimes I will not acknowledge due to fear for my own safety.
I have a little inner conflict. part of me loves this place and wants to contribute to its success. other part wants cheap dopamine fix from a large audience. for now I'm splitting my posting between both places and hoping the balance tips towards bs
I think one of the problems here is the conversation is often very meta. That gets dull after a while, but there’s not yet the user base to provide the variety that there is on Twitter. More invites will help, but I appreciate they need to balance performance and functionality with growth
It's nice to be a part of the growth era of a social media platform, tbh. You can grow with the people around you, make friends you might not otherwise interact with and nurture as it grows. I like being here for it, though I do admit I'm not sure I can bring many people over
There isn’t enough content generation at this stage. There cokes a point when enough content will generate more frequent interactions, or at least I hope. I’ll be using this space to post blogs related to writing and crossing fingers that people like them :)

unless someone has a better acronym 👀
Good to see you here :)
We don’t need MORE engagement, we need higher quality engagement.

Nice one for keeping things lighthearted, @pfrazee.com.
Go team Bluesky!
I wonder if there’s a gig analogy in there too.

Just a random NPC trying to understand how this works
