Don't be lavish. Prioritize life experiences over acquiring things. Don't get in debt. And voila, you made budgeting a waste of time. Otherwise you'll need it.
Generally good advice. It can be hard to avoid getting in debt depending on income, housing and child care costs, employment fortunes, medical issues, car problems, aging parents, etc.

And I’ve never read the book.
As in I have a rough idea how much money goes to bills, savings, food and how much I can afford to spend on hobbies and self improvement.
No notebook with crunched numbers or anything like that.
