I go to the gas station maybe once every 2-3 months with my hybrid. Saving $700 a month with two EV cars. Once the general public figures this out, it's over for gasoline powered cars.

To put it another way for anyone who may come across this, many EVs will average energy costs of about $1/100km travelled if you're able to charge at home overnight. A gas car that gets 8L/100km will cost $12/100 km at typical gas prices today (for the GTA).

Add onto that maintenance costs - there's just so much less that needs maintenance or can go wrong. 5 years of owning a Tesla Model 3 cost me ~$800 in maintenance.

I was always asked how long it takes to charge my Tesla. I always answered 10 seconds, because I would just plug it in when I got home and unplug it in the morning. I don't think a lot of people realize that if you can charge an EV at home, you're mostly not spending any time "refilling".

Also, if you're waiting in the car, you can warm/cool in the car(depending on season) without any emissions. I don't like doing that in a gas car.

Also, preheating/cooling the car can be very nice. When I remembered to do it, I'd just turn on the climate in the car as I was walking to it.

It really would have been nice if we had started diversifying the economy *before* something like that happened. I'm sure they'll try and throw some more red tape and roadblocks up to slow ABtans transition to solar/wind and EVs but eventually that reality is going to hit the provincial wallet. Hard

The energy transition is well underway. Electric won the main part. But this doesn’t mean there isn’t demand for oil and gas as a transition fuel or even as a green fuel (fracking to hydrogen/carbon store) converted to electric.
The mass web of pipelines also will have place in service as CAES.

If Trump is intelligent, he would embrace carbon tariffs.

Trump wants to reduce their trade deficit, and nothing else matters. Making domestic coal in China more expensive than LNG, would increase demand for LNG. Carbon tariffs on jurisdictions with a carbon price would achieve this USA benefit.

Makes people feel all warm and fuzzy inside to buy an EV and I get it. At the end of the day you only have a few years until you have to replace the battery which is expensive. On top of that the mining of lithium and the fact that you cannot recycle batteries when they’re dead is crazy!

CATL batteries (the biggest manufacturer) come with 1 million km guarantees. Nio and other manufacturers have hot swap batteries with thousands of locations. Not many ICE vehicles are lasting that long.

Nio sources many of its batteries from CATL so the batteries last 1 million km or 15 years. The car itself is not tied to the battery as it can be swapped out in minutes. The batteries are recharged and used in the next vehicle. End of life batteries are often repurposed for grid storage.

- 7 TWh/yr needed to power 1.8M EVs
