Lmao this is weak shit compared to the UK. There seems to be a minister tied up with the gambling lobby every year, every second ad is for gambling, they sponsor all out major sports teams and has normalised sports betting as a casual hobby.

It is pretty weird seeing how americans are reacting to this as a new phenomenon when I'm living somewhere that has had all kinds of legal gambling for my entire life. (e.g. fruit machines in fast food restaurants)

When there was an embezzlement scandal in a nearby township my first thought was gambling. @spotlightpa.bsky.social did some thorough reporting and yep, $332k of the ill used $533k went to DraftKings.

Gambling addiction. With the Supreme Court essentially legalizing online gambling it'll just keep getting worse. Maybe pushing liability back up to the purveyors or creating anti gambling campaigns as strong as our anti-smoking ones would help? That's gonna take a new court and then some.

Happened here. Just by chance read a local paper one day out of many. Main story? Lad I went to school with was caught nicking tens of thousands in stock from his employer to sell on Ebay.

Gambling is up not just because it’s being unleashed but because gambling goes up in times of economic distress (ie not just problem gambling). It’s pretty straightforward economics, and I can pull up some research if you’d like.
