Stealing cat photos is gross, but stealing memorial posts from grieving cat owners for likes and shares is truly repulsive. This account has been reported thousands of times and I'm so disappointed in bluesky that it is allowed to continue. 🧵

I know that they are on blocklists - that's great and all but it doesn't stop them. Bluesky is supposed to be enforcing their community guidelines against this kind of habitual theft.
I have been a HUGE cheerleader for bluesky, brought hundreds of people here, been happily patient through many stages of growth, but honestly I am frustrated that users have done so much work compiling scraper blocklists and bsky doesn't act on them. The fish are in the barrels, why not shoot them?
Thanks for sharing this- that account followed me awhile back, and it seemed to be stolen content so I blocked them. Glad to know that is indeed the case, and will also try reporting them.
I suspect that Bluesky is very busy banning all the bots and whatnot. Right now it's being flooded by an armada of probably Russian bots posting their nasty propaganda as comments in various languages. It seems like content thieves and the like are low on their list 🫤
For a while I kept getting asked to share fundraisers from young women for their cats who all had strikingly similar stories. They all had breast cancer and were caring for their elderly moms, had just left abusive relationships, etc.
I’ve reported several variations of same account at least a half dozen times now with pictures and posts about a cat needing surgery. It’s sickening that people do this in spite of all the ACTUAL emergencies and disasters going on now, trying to scam money out of folks.
typical reupload accounts are bad enough. but stealing someone's photo and story about their beloved pet who just died, even using "i" like it was your own cat? absolutely disgusting behavior
They may be backlogged. The platform has tripled in users in a pretty short time from 3 other platforms & it may be an honest problem. I don't think @bsky.app isn't taking it seriously.

Are they an AI bot account? They don’t seem to engage with anyone. If they would just credit the original person it might not be so bad, but it’s so disrespectful. It would break my heart, again.
Yes, most of them are bot accounts or use bots to steal images. You need no coding knowledge to set up a bot, there are many sources to download a ready-to-go bot. Just search for "image scraper bot download" on Google.

But last I checked, bsky team is still tiny, and are being pulled in a million different directions. So it'll probably take time to happen 😭
