Exactly! Let’s also start to talk about if manufacturing jobs come back to the US, how in the world will be able to afford buying our own products? Wages have consistently and intentionally been kept low while our top 1% income has increased logorhythmically. The middle class has become a myth.

Trump seems to have gotten a lot of his ideas about trade from Navarro, whose books he read years ago. “I read one of Peter’s books on America’s trade problems years ago and was impressed by the clarity of his arguments and thoroughness of his research" he said in 2017.

In the last Trump admin, some grownups tried very hard to keep Navarro away from the president. "Often sidelined, Navarro wandered the West Wing at night and on weekends in hopes of finding a moment to slip into the Oval Office to talk trade with Trump, undetected by his colleagues."

from my old story: In 5 of his 13 books, "Navarro quoted a source called Ron Vara... Vara wasn’t a real person, but he apparently accompanied Navarro to the White House, where last year “Vara” used his own email account to send out a memo showing public support for stiffer tariffs."

Navarro was heavily involved in the "stop the steal" movement to overturn the 2020 election and even went to prison for contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with a subpoena. That's how loyal he is to the president, and loyalty of course, trumps expertise with this president.
