Help for young scientists might look like helping the ones in deeply red states relocate. By helping with matchmaking: connecting young scientists with qualified universities or organizations that are in geographical places that may be safer for them (more state-level protections)

Help for young scientists right now could be promoting nonfederal sources of funding, to keep the grad students fed and off the street if their funding either gets shut down temporarily or falls through. And coordinating some sort of central contact point for them to go to, when their funding is cut

I'm an underrepresented white PhD student in a public school. My admins and faculty can't help. I'm using my unique situation to send information on how to adapt to new policies to the other grads. Bc with my CV, I am unlikely to be hired regardless. But knowing there are people in my corner helps.

That is what I am saying and what I am trying to do.

I am trying to ferret out as much information as I can so that folks can at least know what is happening.

I am also trying to find other ways to help, pushing folks behind the scenes.

But other steps that would actually help are more elusive.

The inside scoops on logistics + moral support + outrage from a bigger megaphone have been really helpful amidst the turmoil. Having all the old PIs on our side but the institutions (and the $ we all need to live & work) against us is admittedly a quite funny dynamic, but we forge ahead, I suppose.
