And it wasn't all of 4chan. It wasn't even most of it. But it was the most virulent parts whose memes have mainstreamed into real life consequences for everyone

Early days of 00's felt like a fever dream. Nobody gave a crap and 4chan, SA, and Adult Swim had the stupidest shit you just had to see going on. I'll never forgot the Mooninites Boston LED scare. Shit was unreal.

I sincerely believe that the totally anonymous image board is the healthiest social media structure.

Even being pseudonymous opens you up to so much pressure from public perception and creates vectors for harassment.

I have similar feelings about early Facebook when the focus was two way connections without anonymity. A lot of it sucked but it functioned well as a social network and mostly self-regulated until it started transitioning into a social media platform.
