Young people: The GOP is floating an amendment to raise the voting age from 18 to 25. Vivek Ramaswamy is openly promoting it. They’re scared of your votes and want to silence you. Act appropriately in 2024.

But the Dems are always calling 16-21 year old adults "children" and they're always talking about how the frontal cortex of the brain doesn't mature until 26 anyway so I think this law might benefit the Dems' ethos, right?
Looking at some of the replies here, regardless if they have no chance of passing it, I think the key takeaway is that this is their mindset. This is what they want. Their goal is to mess around and make voting harder. Vote them out.
Amending the Constitution is a very difficult thing to do. He can promote it all he wants. There’s a 75% threshold (38 states) for an Amendment to pass. I’m not too worried.
If we can fend off the wolves long enough, I feel good about the future as more young people reach voting age and become active in democracy. One positive in all this is they realize democracy isn’t automatic and can’t be taken for granted. We just have to make in through this dangerous window.
They might need help from the rest of us to vote as well. Please check to make sure your registration is up to date; check with your County Clerk and avoid the Labor Day rush. (Bringing them cookies is optional; check your local laws on that.)
I feel it has little chance in Australia in anything less than three or four electoral cycles. Our government has been for many years either right wing or centre right, and there's not a lot of desire to push for something that would strengthen more progressive parties.
It’s obvious your blue party is destroying this country and our economy. So I don’t have anything to loose. I am going to vote for him. Anyone younger then that is just a sheep and doing what someone else tells them to do.
He's just a tiny dicked scardy cat. Like most of his ilk, the person is afraid of any form of change. They hide like cowards, but speak real big. Probably has a gun they wave around like that makes them tough. People like them forget that many can fight back, and even take them out, without guns.
Sounds a bit mental to me. I have lived through a lot of administrations and the red party is the only actively destroying the country all to make rich people richer, their party more racist and trying to make everyone dumber.
Republicans dont want to attract more voters by changing their platform, so they opted to reduce the number of voters that don't support their political philosophy.
So suddenly gerrymandering doesn't work anymore, and they can't expect to ban black people from voting anymore. So now it's grown ass adults?
They really are desperate, aren't they? Filth.
They should lower it to 16. If you are old enough to work and pay income tax, you should be able to vote. Otherwise it is taxation without representation. Lower it even more in states where the GOP has lowered the working age.
They want children to be able to work younger and younger, too! "Stay in line, peasants!" they shout. "Participate in the system, and don't you dare thing you have a voice!"
It's why they hate higher education so much. The last thing Republicans want is an educating working class. They'd rather everyone graduate high school and go right to the mines.
As long as they raise the air to serve in the military also. I always hated that they raised the drinking air to 21 everywhere when you could die at 18. Joind in 88 and the federal law changed In 1990.
Yeah, saying they want to repeal the 26th amendment is just theater. Imagine any amendment being approved by 2/3rds of both houses and ratified by 3/4ths of the state legislatures in this climate.
Focus on what they can and are doing - namely voter suppression and gerrymandering.
That's a terrible idea, but the election commercials would be AWESOME. "Candidate Jones is a bad man. He wants to steal your binky. Some people say Candidate Jones wants kids to eat their vegetables and will send scary clowns to your birthday. Vote Smith. Only he can kill the closet monster."

That's how it should be.

If it goes through some of the voters in the election before the change will be to young to vote in the next election ...
Bwahahahaha! I can't even type that without cracking up. OF COURSE they'll rig the system. They've given up on democracy entirely at this point.
