It's wild that there aren't more financial background checks on people at that level of government. Our whole (civilian)family had to be cleared for 'not being in debt to a potential national security threat' before my spouse could work on some public info video editing for the Canadian military.

It's no problem making the rules clear. Any donation over 2K is attempted bribery, any acceptance is bribery. Acceptance of any bribe yields forfeiture of government position for life. Why are the criminal penalties for drugs so easy to write, but so hard to write for politicians?
