These senators will be able to invest in private companies and pocket even more money. Greed knows no bounds.
History shows that privatizing public services always leads to higher costs and lower quality.
He can't snap up and play with stock options if they aren't private, though. How else can they manipulate the stock market if they aren't able to get in on the ground floor?
If it's privatized, they will recruit the dumbest people to meet a MINIMUM requirement, so they can pay them slave wages and maximize PROFITS.
Staff will be put on quotas, they will go through the motions, but the entire operation will have NOTHING TO DO with ensuring acceptable levels of security.
There could be no benefit to privatizing TSA. It would just funnel government money to private companies with a profit motive. This would translate into less agents, longer lines, ruder agents, and ultimately a less safe traveling public.
you're not wrong but the TSA itself does deserve some shame from the public. I worked in PDX airport. The amount of things that do get through because of lack of training is crazy,
The TSA was created for a good reason but became abusive and over reaching. They don't need to go they need training
Anything that republicans propose always costs more when privatized. Itβs all about greedy asshats lining their own pockets instead of doing something for all Americans.
National Weather Service is certainly going to be a target too. Hand over weather forecasting to Meta so they can charge you for the tornado warning. You know Musk wants the National Weather Service like SpaceX
I take it he doesn't know that TSA hires Veterans first & then if you pass the test, other people get hired in. They LOVE to screw Veterans don't they?π
It is still better than the multiple private security companies that were at every airport. Each airport security company had little training and a lack of standardized screening. TSA will have lapses but doesn't compare to what it was prior.
It's not really better. It doesn't make us any safer and just makes using the airports that much more difficult for the average person. TSA has more than just "lapses." They're a sieve.
Nothing ever replaced with private companies works well or cheaply. We need fewer private companies and contractors in government, not more. And I say this as a former defense contractor.
North Carolina privatized the DMV (division motor vehicles) and it took several weeks to navigate the system for drivers licenses and plates for cars. Virginia system was bad (govt entity), but NC was about 3 times worse. Long wait times, no booklets to study for test, weeks to process versus days.
They don't want their "enemies" to escape the country. And at some point, hopefully, they may want to expedite their own departure. Don might join Al-Assad in Russia as Putin's guest.
People seem to forget, before 9/11, this was privatized. In a reaction to 9/11, the American public thought it was too important a function to be private. Thus, the birth of TSA and Dept. of Homeland Security.
On second thought, if we had required oil companies doing business abroad to provide their own security, we would never have invaded Iraq, and Europe would not have millions of displaced Iraqis and Syrians fleeing there. π€
I stopped reading at Maga Senator. Should be an oxymoron...speaking of which, Magamoron sounds better. Magamoron senator from a state that needs $ from California says: let's privatize so we get to add 50% to the costs.
Forget Trump. Go after Congressional Republicans supporting Trump lunacy.
Comes down to risk vs benefit. Republicans in Congress risk nothing and benefit supporting Trump. Make them fear the American people more than they fear Trump. Risk will outweigh benefit and Trump support will dry up.
I'm all for going back to pre-TSA checks. Let's keep in mind that the TSA was created as part of a reactionary rights-grab by the right wing as a response to 9-11. It has never had the public's best interests at heart.
That said, I don't trust the Nazi-GOP to fix it either.
Can you imagine the fees the airlines would charge for "security services"? There would probably be a fee allowing passengers to skip any security check at all.
Yup, Republiscum TP is fed government is to bigly, it needs RW for profit companies to run them. They specially want Christian madrasas to be paid for by public education money.
They are coming for every single cent of your federal taxes. Every contract every single way to get their hands on public funds and funnel it into their private offshore accounts.
Out sourcing of federal jobs to private companies. i expect this is already well underway.
Public schools are experiencing brain drain of wealthier and higher performance students to private schools and charter schools, leaving the public system to deal with a higher proportion of disruptive and high-needs students. Depending on your state schools may also be funded based on enrollment.
So...the public school system drives "problem children" into private schools designed for those kids. I went to more than one of those private schools. I had 7 kids in my elementary school class for a few years.
Public schools that get no funding and basically push students through because they're understaffed and under funded. But sure, let's privatize everything, put profits before people, and see how long it takes for the fires to get worse.
Private schools are generally attended by kids whose parents have resources. They tend to exclude kids with neurodifferences. This means the attending students already have a leg up and kids with different needs or who struggle are excluded.
As for excluding nueridivergent kids...that couldn't be further from the truth...those kids are steered into private schools by counselors at public schools. Private schools are filled with those kids...like half the kids to be honest.
The schools are objectively better...better staff...better materials...better campus...safer campus. Smaller class sizes...tailored curriculum...all that contributes.
Good schools make good students...these are kids remember. Most private schools don't have an aptitude test to attend. I am guessing you didn't go to private schools.
Having good students doesn't make a school good...lol. That makes no sense. What makes private schools better is that they pay the teachers like four times more money... so...you get teachers who could actually work in the industry or subject matter they teach...like a college professor.
I went to private schools until high school...in a wealthy area where the public schools were very good. The public high school has a brand new television production studio...and more stuff like that.
When I got to that high school from private schools...it was like I went back three grades...
In the same district, I went from one school to another and basically slept for a year until they did something new for me. (Forced change. They closed our school. The whole school had the same transition issue including the teachers).
I worked for an airline for 35 years before retiring. Before TSA, our supervisor would actually have us hide fake bombs under our uniforms and walk through security to see if the private company would catch it! Many times they didnβt catch us!
TSA was created because 9/11 was able to happen!
BUT think about what could go right. His investments and the investments of his donors could skyrocket! Isn't that what everyone wants? Why stand in his way of being even wealthier? To save lives? You sound like a comic book villain.
The republicans dismantling of all the institutions that safe guard/protect the U.S. from Wagner, ISIS, internal extremists etc..will lead to mass casualty events on U.S. soil.
One could conclude that the republicans have a goal and it isn't to protect the U.S.
Apart from all the other reasons this is a bad ideaβthis undoes the entire reason the TSA exists in the first place. Private security guards were the status quo in September 2001; after 9/11 it was generally thought better to replace them with actual LEOs.
You do know though that we were actually safer before TSA. The TSA is just a bunch of theater. There's lots of other countries that don't have TSA style BS and they're doing just fine. The biggest fix to airline safety were reinforced and locked cockpit doors, not the TSA.
A Salt Lake Tribune analysis of thousands of X posts by Lee found that the account most frequently engaged by the senior member of Utahβs federal delegation is platforms owner.
This reminds me a bit of nuclear power. My problem with nuclear power is not that it can't be safe. It can, and we likely need it, along with solar, but, when you always have the lowest bidder run everything, well, they find new ways to fail, in areas we really can't afford to fail.
It's also the agency that spent billions on new machines so we wouldn't have to take our shoes off that we still have to take our shoes off in. Meanwhile in Europe, don't have to take them off having spent zero on new machines. Not privatized in Europe either.
The airlines can't even figure out boarding. Can't wait for security checks for each different level of frequent flyer. Pay extra for a reseved security check time. Each bag going through security costs extra.
I wonder how much the βgovernment is bloatedβ mindset comes from people who had a bad experience at the post office or DMV, and think the employees are lazy or redundant. In fact, the employees are decent people, and the delays are more from under investmentβnot enough staff or salaries too low.
That said, there are billions to be saved in defense and building transportation infrastructure. But hereβs kicker: All that over-spending goes to β¦ private companies.
It would be better if TSA were privatized. We could sue them if they violate our rights (which we cannot do to government agencies), and we could probably keep our water bottles and snow globes.
Of course the avg person wants pvt everything. They've been told it will reduce their taxes. That's the oldest scam on the books, don't you know that? It's the easiest way to convince people who don't understand economics.
Prob you understand econ. They think: "My taxes pay govt workers. No govt workers, no taxes. SIMPLE!!!" They don't understand that they will have to pay MORE for pvt workers who take their place. GET IT??? IT doesn't compute for them.
They're also too stupid and ignorant to grasp just how much of their cushy life depends on things that only the government (without profit motive) can do.
This is the plan. Diminish the federal agencies and civil servants and replace them with for profit privately owned companies controlled my trump cronies.
It is Russia 1995 on steroids. Putin is celebrating victory ! Every piece of the US is for sale. Justices, congressmen, senators and of course the president. Agencies schools and departments of course are just now for grab. Name your price. And wire your money to $DoJ $FBI and $SCOTUS crypto coins.
At some point, if unchecked, the privatization craze particularly virulent among Maga, Trump and Trump supporting billionaires and corporations, would displace Congress, the courts, the presidency, and any form of democracy with an Ayn Rand nightmare of greed and vengeance and inhumanity.
But I wouldnβt trust it under this administration. We do have private ambulances. And apparently none of them are covered by insurance. Everyone I know that has had to use one lately had to pay $1000. That seems to be the base cost.
The TSA was created to take away the responsibility of checking passengers from private companies BECAUSE OF REPUBLICANS FEARMONGERING over terrorist attacks, all to remove the airport workers unions.
I remember private airport security. It very clearly had issues. If Lee hates pat downs, instead of taking government jobs, we could, I don't know, change TSA policy.
Ah yes, late stage capitalism where every government service is sold to the highest bidder. Where those that it serves are reduced to walking dollar signs.
Enjoy this enhanced pat down, brought to you by Meta.
Weβre already seeing the rise in prices for absolutely no reason simply because these companies can. There is no consequence. Companies have proven themselves to be self-interested so why would this be any different? The highest bidder would gain access regardless if theyβre a security risk.
My friends little sister is TSA, she brought a bunch to a bbq, nice people, but they all said they double check the white guys and clearly not terrorists because they are probably clean. One said I ain't getting blown up at the gate. "I will be out of a job, but I will be alive"
Back in the 80βs as a recording secretary (also invisible) I sat in on meetings where they discussed privatization of correctional facilities. Even then, that sounded fishy to me.
Fun that the GOP was the party that gave us the TSA to protect us from terrorists that got through weak security administered byβ¦. Private security contractors. This wasnβt even that long ago!
The GOP/MAGA want to privatize everythingβ¦Medicare/Medicaid, Social Security, etc. so big investment companies can make money off the backs of Americans.
Project 2025 calls for Medicare default to be a private insurance company. A CEO running a
for profit company will decide when healthcare for grandma and grandpa is no longer profitable.
Ehhhhhh. TSA doesn't really do anything. They constantly critically fail assessments and it's 90% theater. The best thing to say about them is they're a huge government employer. Abolishing the TSA would leave us just as safe as we are now, but everyone likes the theater apparently.
The insatiable GREED that these oligarchs, CEO's, billionaires, and Republicans are fueled by is beyond galling. There is NOTHING they won't corrupt or bastardize to turn a profit, and the pain they cause people is their fun time bonus!
We're getting real close to somebody letting us all eat cake.
Mike Lee. Grins through every disaster. He was booed helping Mango Mussolini on the campaign trail and grinned an waved as he was booed off stage. Guessing you learn that move in politics 101.
Privatization of government services in the 'pursuit' of efficiency and cost-cutting always result in costing more and efficient toll collection for the new owners. Look at places where it went wrong. The privatization always ends up in the friends of the leader, of whom there are currently many.
At what point will people realise privatisation simply means huge profits for private companies, low wages for employees and a worse service for the public ??

Didn't the Nazi's start by building walls and restricting movement?. Of course the walls were to keep people in not others out.
America is now on my no fly list. Right up there with Russia, China, North Korea and the Middle East. Too many red flags.
Out sourcing of federal jobs to private companies. i expect this is already well underway.
Why canβt Republicans grasp the basic history?
Of course private schools have better outcomes.
Private schools have better resources and an agenda. That makes them suited to appear successful.
Public schools often don't bother to ensure their reported metrics in "public" information is even accurate. They're busy with the students.
When I got to that high school from private schools...it was like I went back three grades...

(Sarcasm)
Airplane security was a massive distraction from intelligence, diplomacy and military failures in the middle east leading to 9/11
Killing people and giving their oil to corporate cronies causes terrorism, not letting people take water on planes.
One could conclude that the republicans have a goal and it isn't to protect the U.S.
Bidder- themselves.
All. Of. It.
@sltrib.com has a fantastic piece on his obsessive Tweeting and sucking up to Elon.
I know why Republican leaders want it, but I can't get over Joe Six Pack popping off with pro privatization BS.
Same with rolling back regulations.
Do we really have to learn every lesson the hard way? Can we reference history every 10th time or something!?
If they had a thought process, I'd want to hear it. But I know you can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into.
Hell they can barely fly planes..
Once again, Denmark to the rescue (pun maybe intended):
