I am catching up on The White Lotus and Jason Isaacs is indeed nailing the accent on phrases like “money laundering” and “Am I implicated?” It suggests he has very wisely studied the Carolinas and our rich history of white-collar criminals

Honestly, I find his long O sounds off for North Carolina. Or at least inconsistent. I say this as someone who moved to the state and was teased about that specific sound in my own speech because it marked me as a transplant.
I'm loving Jason in this season of the White Lotus, the comedy in his performance is so subtle! I'm dying to see a dark comedy starring Jason Isaacs and daniel Craig as brothers 😂 I feel like they would be a hilarious duo
I was making fun of his "sometimes Tennessee sometimes The Californians occasionally British" accent and it never crossed my mind that maybe that's how people from the Carolinas sound?? I should have shown Mr. Isaacs more respect!
Honestly, his story arc is about the only one I'm finding engaging so far. He's doing a fantastic job of coming apart at the seams. 🤣
Why the fuck are they wasting Walt Goggins on this manic pixie dream girl nonsense? If they actually have a story arc for him, time to kick it in, NOW.
I live in Raleigh. Been here most of my life. My husband and I are sooo impressed by his accent. It’s like he and Parker Posey hung out in the country club parking lot and absorbed it all.
I appreciate the point of your post, but regarding the show: Isaacs' fakety accent is just awful. Couldn't they have found an American actor to play that part?
I can't imagine how difficult it would be for a non-American to nail a specific American accent! I am convinced he just listens to Parker Posey and copies her.
I'm still on SE02, but looking forward to this. TBH, I'm from WNC & we wouldn't recognize the accent unless someone came home from school at Duke/Chapel Hill & got too big for their britches:-)
I grew up in a part of Bryson City called Alarka, which before it became an REI catalog cover was the poorest part of Swain county w/80% federal land & no tax base. Our accent was different from "town folks", which were grit to Sylva/Waynesville peeps. Don't even get me started w/Asheville :-)
He's an extraordinary actor! I was lucky to have about a half hour chat about his work with him. He is an actor's actor. Always has been. And he has the most beautiful blue eyes I've ever seen. I run to see anything this man is in, like Alan Rickman, you know you're going to get a good performance.
My linguistic anthropology professor once told us that the modern gentle Southern accent most likely is closest to the old English accent many came here with, and that's partly why the British actors in GWTW so smoothly blend in despite not using accent coaches back then.

I’m completely sucked in. Parker Posey is equally terrific. Her pill popping “I’m rich” personality is spot on.
“It’s a whole thang”.
When she says “Who do you know w/a boat?” to her first born, whom she named Taxson 🤣
I thought yeah, this show did it’s research
