Sen. Chuck Grassley, a top Republican from farm-heavy Iowa, is spearheading a bill that would limit the president's power to impose tariffs amid Trump's trade war escalation.

“The first thing that would make me feel a little bit better towards them if they’d follow the Japanese model and come before the American people and take that deep bow and say I’m sorry, and then either do one of two things — resign, or go commit suicide.” --Sen. Grassley.
Grassley in finally getting out of whipped dog mode. First he’ll growl and then he’ll grovel when his master picks up the whip. Because, that’s what Republican cowards do. Woof.
And I’m sure the first thing he tells his constituents is that he still loves Trump, is 100% behind the rest of his agenda, and yeah the tariffs are bad but even worse is the possibility that somewhere a trans kid is trying to play a sport.
Are we supposed to feel sorry for you and your farmers amongst this trade war created by your leader, the person you support? FU, you supported a coup.
Grassley was going to retire, but Felontrump made him run again out of fear of his losing Iowa, & because he trusted Grassley to throw out the votes & overthrow the Constitution. Looks like Chuck may have realized what He has gotten US into.
What do you think they'll do when China imposes tariffs on soya beans? And Europeans stop buying American farmers' cereals, orange juice, cranberries and so on?
Many of these farmers along with nearly half of Americans willingly voted under the promise that Trump would harm nearly all foreign businesses - big and small - exporting to the US.
Congress already holds the power to approve or disapprove tariffs, the GOP just lets Trump roll right over them. This legislation is just for show so Grassley can pretend he cares about his constituents
Amazing. Only when it affects them directly will they find a backbone. @Sen. Chuck Grassley, your term doesn't end until January 3, 2029. You can sit back down and relax.
Tariff issue is part of the larger issue Trump ran on: retribution for everyone that has ever slighted him. He simply does not care & neither do Repubs
Trade wars are not modern GOP orthodoxy.
But he is doing one openly and aggressively.
No more lectures about markets being free.
This tariff shit show belongs to the GOP.
And it will just barely fail…. How predictable. If not in the Senate, then in the House. But it will fail. They should pass a bill about who has their head the farthest up Trump’s zit-laden ass. All they would need is a six yard long tape measure to determine the results.
Whoop de shit, Grassley. It would affect potential new tariffs not the ones just enacted. Great job closing the doors after all the sheep are out of the barn
It will still have to pass Maga Mike Johnson's House and get 2/3 in both chambers to survive a Mango Mussolini veto...but Chuck is SO brave to introduce it.
This is like a person enrolling in the army, showing up for basic and putting on his uniform, removing it, and going home telling people I did my part.
Every Republican must go. If they don't want to go, they should start impeachment proceedings. Thats is the only way Republicans save themselves.
It's all fun and games until it affects you. This stellar GOP sycophant to Trump and Musk voted for EVERY Trump nominee into office.
No, I think you should have to defend your votes to your electorate back home. They deserve their time to throw tomatoes, if they have any left after GOP destruction.
All he needs to do is get 19 more GOP senators to go along with him to override the veto by Trump. And somehow get Mike Johnson let the bill see the light of day. I truly wish him luck.
Grassley is 91 years old and should not be in Congress at this point. This is just pandering to his supporters. He knows the bill has no shot at success. He’s just making it seem like he cares about the farmers who voted for him. He doesn’t. Never has.
yep. And even if you can muster enough votes in the senate to override a veto, you probably can’t even get enough votes in the house to even pass it at all.
The only way this helps is if he revokes what Trump has inflicted on us, and you can bet this bill won’t look backward to yesterday, only forward. Too little, too late for the Trump party to find a spine. They should have used common sense from the beginning.
“Hey now! Y’all didn’t say this crap was going to affect MY constituents! I thought we was only going after the Libs? I better begin to look like I’m doing something then.”
Somebody wake up Grassley & tell him tariffs are already handled by Congress & if he could see his way clear to get Moses Johnson across the building on the horn, he could get that done...
Dem to do: 1)Bill with Trump's popular tax cuts. 2)Fund infrastructure, education, science, environment 3)Minimum 5% tax on income over $1M 4)Tax all income with FICA regardless of source or amount 5)Tax wealth over $100M at 1%, over $1B at 2%, $10B at 3%, $100B at 4%, $1T at 5%...
This dude is WAY TOO OLD! Sorry, but he is.. he and his ilk have lost touch with reality.. they live in their ivory castle and look down on the working people.. He should step down along with some of the others who fail to meet the moment.

Indeed.
HE VOTED FOR THIS SHIT!!!
If he accomplishes anything, it would be a first.
But he’s so decrepit and mean, he won’t be around to see if it worked
as soon as you gave your power, giving him anything he wanted you became useless🙄🙄🙄🙄

good one!
Musk has made that impossible.

Putting on a show for your constituents who will probably still vote for you when you’re dead?!
Couldn't manage to vote YEA on Kaine's bill just yesterday.
