I so appreciate your article as it will always be #TheGulfOfMexico
Say no to Musk. This is straight out of Handmaids Tale, Elon will be the only "father" in the town.
OK fellow Texans. We don’t want him either. Austin is owned by no one least of all this con man. He needs to go back to South Africa and play with his diamonds. Oh, and take your da__ chain saw with you.
How come the new norm in the USA is watching technocrats building little cities. We in the old day called them cults and cult leaders . And when they caused problems to the government or people we would shut them down.
The new Jim jones . What to try the koolaid!
This is also happening in Tenn. A wealthy white Christian nationalist and podcaster. He was using proxy buyers to amass enough property to let them take over the existing local government. A local investigative journalist Started doing a story. The people in town were furious
It pretty much is an island a little more rising sea level and it will be an island. there’s one crappy road to get there, with a CBP checkpoint on the way into Brownsville.
I think Politico that wrote this article talked to soon because I live in Texas and the people need to vote if they want to become a city or not . Elon Musk what's to own that place but people from Texas needs to vote.Musk doesn't own yet that place.
It's not up to the people of texas but of the people in that district, and most are in boca chica, so elon has the majority of what gets voted on. Also, city leadership is corrupt. That's why canvassing was mentioned, but I'm way simplifying it. This is way more complicated than I fully understand.
Not anything new, but texas ledge lobbyist keep trying to close down the beach again, supporting bills that would give elon total control. Tbh beka hinjosa is a better source on all things brownsville.
And believe it or not democrats are to blame their, this is one of the reasons the border is shifting right the other is the conservatives that elon brings in from cali and other states. Then there's a few Canadian Americans that vote red.
Most news outlets tout this as a big win for Musk, insinuating repair to his character is taking place. It's not. About 300 people were eligible to vote, and most of them were his employees.. this is nothing more that an oligarch's kicking off their next frontier of attacks: American cities
"They’re claiming they’re bringing economic incentives, but the rent is going up, the roads are crumbling"
Every place I've lived, corporations come in because they don't want to pay a living wage. They promise local lawmakers: subsidize us and don't tax us and we'll give you low-wage jobs -
And the lawmakers are like great, but I am going to tell everyone they'll be high paying jobs with benefits. And they sell them or just outright give them land, expand the roads for them, build extra power plants, allocate water for them.
And all locals see is loss of land, overuse and competition for local resources, housing cost goes up, taxes and cost of living goes up because you have to maintain all the new things you build for this company,
But you can't live there anymore. The water and air gets polluted because you waved regulations for them. Roads are crumbling because they run giant trucks on them but don't pay into maintenance.
Every new company that comes in, people are like... Oh it'll be different this time. Amazon would never do this to us. Walmart truly cares. Okay but this time we made a really great deal -
I see it as a quality of life argument. The developers and politicians say that the quality of life of folks already living there will improve, but the arguments to support that claim quicky fall apart. In the end the quality of life is worse, and the corps and pols are cashed out and gone.
He is positioned to inflict maximum harm. Texas serves as a breeding ground for authoritarianism. While the good folks there have tolerated a lot from book bans and assaults on women, the people of Texas might have different intentions for Mr. Musk. 🤷♀️This ain't South Africa.

All on the taxpayer's dime.
The corp skips state tax -
There weren't as many jobs as promised.
And they didn't pay as high as promised.

No you didn't. Make them pay taxes.
Billionaires believe they should be able to carve out American communities to suit them regardless of the rest of the country and laws.
Seriously have to take a crack setting a threshold on how much any one individual or group can privatize.
