Got myself a library membership card this morning. I used to have one for many years from when I was a kid, but lapsed during the COVID lockdowns. I'm a big fan of libraries. π§ͺ

Recently renewed my library card also. Received a Kobo e-reader for Christmas and get books through library on Overdrive app. Still like the feel of a real book once in awhile.
I love the library. Had to recently cut up my local card and send it back because they broke away from the American Library Association and Missouri Library Association because the city took it over and demanded to ban books with LGBTQ content!! I will pay for the library in another town.
Amen. Speaking as a devout bibliophile with more books in the house than common sense. Who has spent more hours in libraries, bookstores, thrift stores perusing books than I care to admit & who has passed that love of reading to my kids. "A public library is the most democratic thing in the world".
Please help make this go viral! We have to step up our game because our representatives are clearly not going to save us from this fast moving coup! The only thing we really can do that's nonviolent is slow production. Cost them money. Don't get fired. Don't hurt anyone. But do more where youcan
The world is entering a downswing of history.Β I'm not ashamed to shill my dad's book that covers electricity,Β ammo, water, food,Β health, and sustainability. These topics are covered in ways that other books do not. Especially making, storing and using electricity.
Definitely get the Libby app and add your library name & card. So many e-books, magazines to read if you can't get to the library. I go back and forth using my phone and tablet. Very convenient!
I used to have a patient who was a retired librarian. Sheβs the most interesting person Iβve met in awhile and gave me lots of tips as to what the library has to offerπ
I go all the time, our library is a real community hub, especially for our imagrants, senior citizens and ppl with special needs and offer so many services
Yes. They're like bookstores only the books are free. Maybe public libraries should allow vendors to sell beverages and snack food, show free theme movies in a festive atmosphere, and have public readings by authors. Emulating popular bookstores might draw in more of the public.
Many libraries do this! This month we have a Holi celebration outside with food vendors (all free for the first 50 people I believe), we show free movies monthly on our big screen via our licensing agreements, and weβre setting up a Tiny Desk Concert style musician series soon. Itβs always possible!
Charleston, South Carolina! Admittedly, we are well funded and have a great programming budget thanks to our community book sales (and by that, I mean I must thank our patrons for purchasing used books from us. It is our entire programming budget!) Many cities have offerings like this!
Yes and generally criminally underfunded.
Parks and Libraries are barely 1% f the overall budget in my county. Yet they are best investment citizens can make.
Write you elected officials supporting Parks and libraries.
We have a beautiful library where Iβve spent many long hours, but itβs become a warming room of sorts for homeless and addicts. My partnerβs sonβs friend quit his long-time job there recently β ptsd from dealing with overdoses in the bathrooms.
Watch this Video and Repost this on every platform. Every American should be there for our country. Be an Al Green! SHOW UP!! America needs you!! If you have to, sleep in your car or camp out. Carpool. Get there!! https://youtu.be/B3ct1ckEhZs?...
I love my cozy local library and free audio books too. Recent listens: A Tale of Two Cities; Walden; Just started Huckleberry Finn. I have a list of classics, but I would 6 appreciate sociopolitical suggestion of more recent titles.
My late father, bless his soul, lived to 93. He phrased it as the βlibaryβ, we couldnβt understand why, an intelligent and schooled man. Hmmmmβ¦
Me as well! I have also been going to some pretty interesting presentations and groups. I'm just following the library calendar of events. It's been great.
You can use it to join Borrow Box on your iPad too. Thousands of free books. I used it such a lot through COVID lockdown but love going to Winchester or Eastleigh libraries too.
Download/connect Libby and Hoopla with your library card, lots of other apps and access too, itβs seriously the best thing ever at this moment in time.
Me too.
And I never stopped being a fan of books made of paper. You know, the type that can't be hacked and remotely modified or deleted.
You just have to watch out for the firemen.
The Fahrenheit 451 firemen I mean.
Reading a book from my library right now, reserved one I need to pick up (they ship it to my local branch) as I am almost done with this one. I love the library
I recently got a library card, too. I hadn't had one since I was a brand new college grad, too poor to buy books - a very long time ago. π Now I am rocking with audiobooks from Libby. Enjoy!
I did that recently, only to find that the local library has removed most of the books, and lumped *all* the fiction into a mishmash of genres, mostly pulp. So disturbing.
I love libraries. During COVID our libraries coordinated and pushed our library cards for everyone who wanted one. Made it easy. I utilized ours as much as I could. Still do.
Started back up with our local library a month ago to show my support and start ticking off books from my "to-read" list! Reading is one of my favorite ways to escape and relax. Libraries are AMAZING places beyond just encouraging reading.
So, if you like to read, check out my book published a few weeks ago. Itβs called The List. Has my name on cover - many with same title. Murder mystery/serial killer. On Amazon and Kindle. If u read it, dm me.
They shut our local library.
I am still annoyed.
The nearest is Manchester City Centre, that may be less than 10 mile, but that too far just to borrow a book?
At 99 my mother was a special guest at our local library to cut the cake for their 50th anniversary. She was their oldest member & had been one for many years. I've been a member since it opened when I was 9. Love my local library
Download LIBBY, KANOPY, and HOOPLAβaudiobooks, graphic novels, ebooks // movies and shows // movies, shows, music, audiobooks, etc. ALL FREE. π πͺ± ππΌ π§
I love using them when Iβm under the weather // the weather is awful s d I canβt get out to my local branch. The credits go to your local library.
Our library offers so much. It offers free sewing lessons with ALL supplies included and a completed take-home item at the end of the project. β€οΈ libraries
Some great libraries like Boston have a e-card only membership for digital content and information for folks who are not local and it is a great resource!
Libby and Hoopla are great for providing access to e-book versions.
We went to our public library yesterday afternoon to read through some of the magazines. Some fascinating articles in Natural History and in National Geographic.
There were about 7 other people in there doing the same.
Our National Treasure-how lucky we are.
Mine has Hoopla
I can connect to other libraries and networks
Amazing music and video selection.
Enjoy-Have fun!
I used to love the one in Leamington Spa U.K. Couple of hours a week perusing anything and everything possible was always on the priorities list when I lived there. Warwick was such a lovely old town.
Here, in Florida, you have to renew your library card every year. Iβve lived in 5 states over the last many year. Never had to RENEW my library card in any of the others!
I think itβs the same here in GA. Itβs either every year or every 2 years but yeah. Annoying, almost as if theyβre waiting to do away with them when membership drops
I let mine lapse years ago after getting an ereader but also recently got a new card. Itβs wonderful to turn the paper pages of a Patrick OβBrian sea adventure. And spending time in the library soothe my soul. β€οΈ
I canβt imagine not having a library card. In addition to regular books, you can borrow e-books and audiobooks. Some libraries subscribe to Kanopy for free movies and to free borrowing of e-magazines.

Congratulations!
I always loved the libraries growing up in Europe, but then again I love books!

what did you check out?
β¬οΈ reading recos please! π
Itβs a great way to borrow audiobooks and books, magazines etc for free
I resisted for years after my mom told me about it
Now I it and love it AS WELL as my library card for physical borrowing
And I never stopped being a fan of books made of paper. You know, the type that can't be hacked and remotely modified or deleted.

Best job I ever had.
Libraries Kick ASS!πππ
They make life grand β¦ for books and movies, respectively
Actually, Libby has tons of content beyond books - magazines, periodicals, etc
I am still annoyed.

be careful, they are hustlers. the nice part is they dont jack the price after they hook you.

Congratulations on your positive step forward. π
