Nice to catch up with Chelmarsh Velvet Scoters (1w M & F) this evening. They seem very comfortable so could be around for a while yet. If only they commute a few miles downriver during their stay... #ShropsBirds

@sheldonbirds.bsky.social Interesting thought. Difficult as hard to know how much birds plumage has changed in 1+ month. I can see fairly clear differences in both birds from photos, but particularly the female type (much larger/whiter patches on head.
Agree - I don’t know how much wear/moult happens in first winters, but I figured a pair roaming inland waters in England sufficiently unusual for there to be a chance.
Cracking image, Craig! For info I've set up a feed for Shropshire that uses the tags Shropshirebirding and Shropshirebirds. I've removed the preceding # to avoid cluttering the feed 🙂
Both tags are automatically added to the UKBirding feed thanks to the wizardry of @j-dunning.net

BTW the Shropshire birding feed also looks for the SalopObs hashtag as a hat tip to Tom!
I keep watching those Long-tailed Tit flocks!
