This Karen (really, Wilma named me Karen) begs you find another name π Yes, Iβm a white woman, but Iβm not βaβ Karen that signifies all things hateful
I think it's unfair the name Karen has been appropriated this way. May be different spelling and a slight difference in pronunciation could help differentiate between the good and the nutty - something like Carrion?
Or say, "Would you mind me calling you the first illegal immigrant? Because that's exactly what you are". Hopefully she wasn't a Texas Measles carrying Karen!
I agree wholeheartedly with the message here.
However I have a dear friend Karen in Oklahoma who suffers so much for just having the name her parents gifted her with β¦ and sheβs blue through and through! I mean meaningful activist blue.
Itβs sad that the Karen thing still persists.
These are the same idiots that think changing the name of an international body of water is akin to syrup and rice and football & baseball teams removing racist stereotypes from their names and logos.
A mate called almost everyone chief (but in the sense of 'boss')
So no problem with it, saying it as a reference to a traditional Indian Chief is clearly an issue though.

Lakota, you should have simply explained that you are in a perpetual state of being offended, you seek opportunity to be offended... just like a Karen.
Wow look at this lil ole post. Gave me an idea to write my own 'white words spoken to me book' I have many many many stories. Sad really because I have another book titled the soft spoken words of a white personπ€·ββοΈ
While I totally agree with you and the awfulness of everything from the "right", please remember that many of us are named Karen and are nice people. Using my name that way is "othering."
Asian-American friends born in the U.S. and myself are asked (especially in the red states):
βWhich country are you from?β
βYour English is very good.β
βAre you here illegally?β
βDid you get into college because of affirmative action/DEI?β
βDid you get your job because of affirmative action/DEI?β

And I'm sure she was offended. π The self-willed ignorance is astonishing. As my mother would say, they have no couth.

And then call her "peon."
I'd have punched her out.
But did the stupid trump supporter even understand what a βKarenβ is?
