Not got much painting advice but pinning is the key to keeping metal models in one piece. I've got this chap in my pile but haven't tackled building him yet to give exact pointers.

Glue it badly , no undercoat , don’t thin your paints , paint straight from the pot , no washes or highlights. And have a bottle of wine beforehand . And don’t wear your glasses .

If you can find it or a similar color there is an OLD OLD color from citadel called Glistening Green, it's by far the best metallic green i've ever come across and would look awesome as a base for the armor pieces.

I always had success using globs of green stuff under the rider legs to fill the gap

I was also deeply intimidated by the green knight and my solution was to just keep buying and painting knights of the realm as practice. It's not the best advice though since you just end up with a lot of knights that aren't green and an unpainted green knight.

I can be of absolutely no help. Every mounted mini I painted looks like the rider is either levitating above the mount or somehow has merged with it.

I look forward to seeing it done though :)
