I get the urge to do something but there are almost zero small businesses in your town that can afford an entire day of no sales. You will truly screw decent people that have nothing to do with what is happening.

You have probably heard this from all the others responding to you, but, the boycott is against major retailers.
Mom and Pop independent stores are NOT on the boycott list. Just please use cash today.
That's why I'm still buying my gyro with extra meat that I get every Friday (my only office day of the week) from Greek Pastry Shop.
I don't need anything else but that.
Go buy something but use cash. We contribute roughly 1.79 billion in credit card transaction fees in a single day in the USA. A one day internet viral shut down will not be doomsday, as half of Americans won’t know about it or won’t care.
If you need more incentive to use cash rather than the pin prick of you not contributing to the 1.79B credit card fees, using set amts to withdraw in cash for a set amt of time is a great budgeting hack
Shop small businesses with cash all day long if you want. 🤷♂️
Geez, relax @fpwellman.bsky.social
Those of us that ARE gunna do something, will not be shopping at the big corporate stores and holding off buying anything unless we need something and then it’s local only. CASH 💰
Support your local small businesses tomorrow. Get to know the people who own them. It’s the circular dollar. Money spent with local businesses stays in the local economy longer.
Oh, I figured that, went for any needed staples yesterday and today from local farmers mkt and mom/pop stop and shop. Got everything needed and prices were competitive.
this is MAGA land and before that Tea party and before that John Birch society (all paid for by the Kock Brothers) .. I'm not going anywhere ( that costs, nor spending.. its easy.. I'm old and broke and I'm out of SNAP for the month..
I do have a question though--so, obviously McDonald's is a huge corporation, but I know for a fact the one in our town is a franchise. Does that mean we should not boycott it or yes, because it's still ultimately a McDonald's?
We aren't boycotting small businesses. In fact, we picked up dinner from a local diner in our town. But we absolutely stayed away from the big box stores today.
If you went to their business yesterday and go again tomorrow that should cover it. I don’t shop ANYWHERE every single day. This is intended to be the beginning of a change in America. consumption. We are all adapting to a new reality.
Many small local service businesses are actually owned by Private Equity groups that keep the local name and face to make it appear locally owned. Plumbers, electricians, handyman services and home health assistants.
They aren’t telling anyone not to buy from small businesses. The one I read said if you MUST buy something tomorrow make sure IT IS from a small business.
We MUST fight back and directing our spending is the best power we have.
It feels to me like the organizers are clear about boycotting chains and big businesses… small businesses and restaurants for example, are not the target (although Target is!) but please try to use cash
We ASK. Also context clues you knob. Are you that daft you can’t hear the coded language or see the apparel or the hate or ugly when we simply ask. It’s so easy. Don’t be obtuse.
In our town we know. Very liberal stronghold, but there are very few MAGA owned businesses…however 10 miles north is a very different situation. I don’t shop in those businesses at all.
That's a permanent boycott. I see any sign of MAGA, they done. There is a pizza place in my town that I used to use because they would deliver where I was and it was super convenient for the once a week we did it and I always tipped big. One day I saw a sign while driving by... no more pizza
It kind of sucks, I'm in a rural area so a place will deliver is not really a thing. But I bought a traeger and discovered I can put frozen thin crust pizza on it and we don't miss pizza delivery anymore:)
The intent is to patronize small businesses. Corporations are where we need to apply pressure. They have leverage with politicians. Small businesses do not
People are shopping at small and local businesses. I plan to go to my local farmers market, which appears to be struggling. I also might stop by a food co-op in the area.
We have the perfect solution! If you feel comfortable shopping small tomorrow and want to support businesses that align with your values, check out https://LittleBlueCart.com for a vetted list of non-MAGA, progressive-owned shops you can feel good supporting! #ShopYourValues #LittleBlueCart
Everything I have seen about the blackout has said that supporting small businesses is encouraged. My husband is off tomorrow and we are going to a local place for breakfast and then visiting my favorite little bookstore downtown.
People say the same about protests blocking traffic. I’m a small business owner and I’ll be in the shop doing inventory and taking part in the blackout because the fallout will be worse
We are not boycotting small business, we encourage everyone to shop small business whenever they can, we are boycotting big businesses including Amazon and companies that are no longer supporting DEI.
I will spend money tomorrow at my locally owned small grocer, staffed by working class folks from the immediate community. Local produce in season, local meats, etc. THEY are the ones I want to support. I will NOT spend any money with any other companies.
The blackout will actually support small businesses. You can shop at them. Even my 80 year old parents - one is ill with cancer - are doing the boycott. And this is a stretch for them. We have to stretch ourselves and we have to care for each other.
I own commercial retail property and still will not buy things today. Their business will sell to bored people who never watch the news and they have rent due tomorrow. They are republicans so I have learned to ignore them and take the money.
We are augmenting a little.
Small businesses that align with our values (I.e, nazis are bad and people exist) and then only using cash so no transaction fees.
Only stuck with sales tax which.. 😑 there’s always something…
Really? The mom and pop hardware store in town will hardly suffer if I buy that gallon of primer on Saturday as opposed to Friday. I’ll make sure to get a new brush just in case even though I don’t need one. Feel better now Fred?
As for those people who aren’t responsible - actually many of them are, they VOTED for that orange tinted pos & deserve every lousy thing that comes their way.
No one is saying to not buy from them. It's literally only buy what you need, or from small businesses.. and to use cash. No one is going after small businesses.
The left needs to stop pretending small businesses aren't run by self righteous conservative assholes. 90% of them voted for Trump. Let em enjoy crashing right into the ground.
Yup. True even in my blue state; meanwhile, despite what the corporations have said, my Target and Starbuckses are staffed with POCs, folks wearing articles of faith, and out LGBTQ. It’s hard to hurt corp without risking their jobs. They won’t get hired by the MAGA coffee shop.
Ya, it really should be any corporation owned . Target got an ass licking. Stop shopping all Corporately stores every day you can. Go to Tesla today sit with sales man for hours asking a million questions asked to be shown every model they sell. Then have a friend change places with you
The small-businesses are exempt…Unless they are Trump supporting.
It’s Amazon, Walmart, Target, Home Depot, Hobby Lobby, fast-food chains, big-oil gas stations, etc that are included
A reminder to VET all businesses before hiring them. Especially by checking their socials, which are typically quite telling. You’d think they would know better, but many do not.
Even tonight I ordered directly from a business that I normally would have ordered from Amazon. Tomorrow and for the next week, I will not order. We rarely order using Amazon now. Changing habits 🥰
No one should be exempt from the fallout. Decent people have lost their jobs, lost their healthcare, lost access to life-saving drugs, lost access to food,….
We can’t allow them to be our sacrificial lambs. When everyone feels some pain, everyone will stand up.
Actually I think the more serious criticism is that delaying or hastening purchases by one day doesn’t actually have much effect at all. Businesses can handle a day without sales—especially if they make up for it Wednesday and Friday.
Thing that sucks is that I’ve wished a happy Eid to my Starbucks barista, but if I say Happy Holidays at the local mom & pop shop, I’d worry that they’d spit in my latte. Not sure what the best path forward is so the bad guys don’t take the message that being MAGA is right and “woke=broke.”
The majority of the PRO-boycott posts that I've read do suggest that folks frequent the small businesses, and just don't do business with the Walmarts, Targets, etc.
They have everything to do what is happening.
Democracy is not for the lazy, it requires commitment and dedication to know who you are voting for and why.
Majority of folks have never read the Constitution.
All of us will pay.
If you must, buy at those small businesses but try to pay with cash, not with debit or credit cards. Go to those small businesses the day before or Saturday, the day after the effort, and buy then to help them recoup any losses on Friday. As for the big box stores, f¥ck them.
We love most small mom & pop stores, I wish there were more of them to support. The aim of the blackout is to show what real people can do with their real wallets to wannabe oligarchs
Yep, I am dumping the corporations (except Costco) as much as possible and every day and focusing on small businesses, including, today! But today, I'll be sure to use cash and not my Visa.
Not buying anything tomorrow is one of the few things we can do collectively to really make an impact and show our power and why are you not supporting that? Your point is valid about small businesses but that's not what this is about. Most of us understand it's about big business.

Assuming the business owner is present. I’d ask in a nice and curious way.
I’d also make a point that I was only spending money at pro democracy stores today.
So I’d give the owner a way out if he agreed in democracy.
Sticker on their car.
There are lists floating around of Big Name Donors & Supporters of Trump. Check them out and stay away.
Remember, they asked/voted for this.
Owner saw me in the store and said, we miss you.
Please!, you miss my $ not my brown ass.
Fox News on both TV's on high volume.
Hatred hats everywhere.
You can choose to be a Nazi, I can choose where my dollar goes.
It’s a war and there will be innocent bystanders.
Cash is preferred so that small business isn’t paying bank card fees.
Go local, use cash.
I respect her craft and character all the more, now.

2. Don’t small businesses who voted for or support Trump.
Cash, no Visa, no Mastercard

Easy peasy.
They know, right?
We can’t allow them to be our sacrificial lambs. When everyone feels some pain, everyone will stand up.
When their business is in jeopardy, the equation is a lot different.
