It's very hard to decide what to keep / take out / add-in as there's no real single-point of unbiased knowledge that says why things are there in the first place, and so a lot of reasoning behind taking things out can end up being weak. the knock on effect of removing things with other areas of maths is also hard to determine, although I think the work done by Lynne McClure et al. at Cambridge Mathematics is excellent on this point. It's unsurprisingly complicated!

Like minds. I'd add that in any kind of review, the loud voices are the ones that want things changed, and the risk is that the silent voices dont want change. People tend not to respond to surveys when things are under review to say 'keep it as it is'

Very true. There are also some who have the power of organisations behind them and they often crowd out voices too, while claiming to represent many. We need to make sure those who are delivery change get a voice.

I should clarify that I'm pretty confident there's at least a reasonable consensus that the maths curriculum is bloated across both primary and secondary. I'm just cautious that we risk removing things that are important but maybe aren't appreciated as such because they're, eg, hard to teach.

I think this will be really interesting to read when it comes around - especially the recommendations that come out of it! There's a page on their website https://www.mathshorizons.uk/ asking people to get involved, so hopefully they get lots of teacher feedback.
