From every side, a great argument..but imo..stay and squeeze every ounce out of the footprint... far too many banking success that may never happen..reality trumps expectation in the case of uprooting the club.

It is a really difficult one I don't see there being a "perfect" solution, I think something will have to give. I love the idea of a SJP upgrade, more seats, better facilities and staying in the same location but my non-engineering brain can't see how that can happen in the space available

I equally like the idea of a purpose build stadium but suspect the location is going to be the sticking point. The thing is, if you look at modern day football, LOADS of teams have moved - for me its inevitable

Everton have managed to build in an area pretty much surround by water on 3 sides so not sure we'd need a 'huge' footprint if we can stay pretty close to where we are with existing city centre parking and transport infrastructure.

Oh I'm under no illusions, the only real options to consider are Leazes Park or Town Moor which obviously bring their own challenges. Just observing that the closer to the current site a proposal is, the less parking etc would be required on the site.

Even as a non-local #NUFC fan, the idea that the stadium would not be in the city centre seems barmy - something easily accessible could mitigate, but part of the intrinsic link between the club and the city is that location.

That said, I understand that the business of football is a thing...

Would be a real shame to lose that.. I think the council would come under pressure if the idea was floated. John Hall made a speculative move to Gateshead very public during the 90’s for that very effect.

It happens in North America often - privately owned clubs trying to leverage new arenas out of a city at tax payers expense (to one degree or another), lest they relocate team to a different city that *will* shell out for an arena.

I hate it as a tactic personally, but again 'the business of sport'

I agree. If we can stay close, we should move. Surely the economics of adding under 10k seats to SJP can't add up. If we are going to drop a billion quid then it should be on something beautiful, purpose built and catered to our needs.

Without NUFC in the city centre hundreds of pubs, sandwich shops etc would take a real hit and some would close. This is the main reason for me why I don’t really mind whether it’s a new stadium or expansion but it has to be in the city centre.

This is my only must for the new ground. by all means build a new one, but it has to stay in the heart of the city. It will kill the city if it is moved a decent distance away, we get away fans staying for weekend trips because of its placement. all of that will change.

Then theres the option of SuperStadium mile, few miles out which would mean more ppl in earlier and leaving later, bringing in more money from drinks & food, but also affecting city pubs, hopefully that affects decision making and Leazes Park stadium would be a possibility

Wouldn't be a chance of me going hours earlier to drink in the ground, think a lot would be the same. Couple miles away would be devastating. Transport links and everything would need to be changed.

I think it could be moved slightly with proper planning and integrate SJ metro into the ground in some way, have the road as a tunnel as to not ruin the current transport routes. obviously this may be me being fanciful haha 🙏

For me, it's Leazes Park or upgrade SJP in-place. You are spot on, that match day feeling/city buzz/location is vital. Hell of a contribution to local economy as well.

Or just…have a smaller stadium. Try to get up to 60,000 and stick with that. Build a second stadium for the lasses and U21s with giant screens?
