3 dudes (2 CIA) in the 50's I think, overthrew a central american country with a radio, by just Saying it had been overthrown on the air. They told the story of the glorious revolution, and everybody decided it was true, so it happened.
I was going to say you don't even have to look back far - a lot of misinfo has been actively promoted about every conflict of my lifetime, and often the actual facts have been buried when inconvenient to... well... anyone.
It's not different in type, but it's different in scale. It's the first one where immense amounts of plausible, well-written BS can be created by anyone.

Ok, I think I see why I was confused. When I'm thinking about "this time in history", I'm thinking about the past year as a whole, but you have something more specific in mind?
