I would have gone with Tyrannidae, Trochilidae, Thraupidae/Furnariidae/Muscicapidae, but reading through the comments I think Columbidae might beat one of the last three...
Not on my list, but they might be! I bet they're just outside the top five. I'm gonna wait for more folks to chime in and then try and get the correct list.
I don't think Furn is top 5 largest, and I say that as someone who def has them as one of my top 5 favorites! Tyr definitely, and Thraupidae, which I think with recent taxonomic revolutions gained more than lost spp!
i know Trochilidae bc one of my chapters was hummingbirds, and i s2g every presentation i did on it had a line about how they were the second-most speciose family and thus great for studying speciation, lol
