Shulman I will meet you on the field of honor with the emperor's blade in my hand. I will spank your ass. I will ride my warhorse past your mother's home with your head on a pike.

The messaging here is fucking baffling. "Finally, anyone can make music, even people who don't like doing it and get nothing out of it!"
This is one thing where I'm quite happy to be a gatekeeper. I put in my 10,000 hours. If you can't or won't do that, music isn't for you and you shouldn't do it.
It is a joy to learn to make art. It's wonderful and beautiful that human time, dedication, and vision can refine the patterns of communication to the point that they inspire life-changing emotions in the self and in others. You are trying to kill our soul. You are suffocating beauty in its cradle.
a big part of what's wrong with modern American society is that capital has targeted the connective tissue between people and scrabbled at it with its dirty little claws until it manages to replace each element with extractive misery. you can't garden or hunt, you can't visit your neighbors, you--
--can't stay home making music, you can't go sit in nature, you can't do anything that connects us to each other, none of the labor or play that results in social cohesion, and so you get a nation of paranoid, reclusive, parasites trying to suck the last ounce of marrow out of the bone.
So many tech types seem to not understand that you can enjoy things without being the best or most efficient at them and derive pleasure from doing them at all. They are even coming for my fucking birdwatching, I do not want smart binoculars, I want to stand in the swamp with no bleep bloops nearby
It’s also that their brain is usually very logical and because of that practical! I often feel like they just don’t understand that process cause they’re wired differently yk!
It's ironic too because the internal tension between slowly growing into a soulless conduit for creating value for shareholders vs. the desire to create lasting beauty inherent to all humans is a character conflict any half-decent artist could make hay from.
Moved to the US recently (US citizen who has never lived in the US in here). Try to see the positives in all societies - but that absence of public/social space and insular behaviours and attitudes often feels real. Art is more than commodity, and more than a way to make a living. It is life itself
I’ll always remember the tone of app ads in the early 2010s and how they were trying to encourage learned helplessness in everyone. ‘You’re MUCH too stressed to enjoy cooking with loved ones — just Seamless again.’
Like birth, like growth, art can be painful. It can quite literally hurt to create, physically and mentally. It also creates joy, through the pain. Comfort. Understanding. It's work, but it is worth it every step of the way.
I hate that AI has taken away "small art" - doodles in the margins of notebooks, improvising a throwaway tune, writing a letter - personal stuff that only matters to the person who made it. In some ways, that stuff is the purest expression of a person
Speaking as a musician excuse me what. Yes it is the biggest pain in my arse, but without it I wouldn’t exist as the person I am. These people don’t understand how to be human, they would take opium to ease the soreness of an hour’s mild labour. They are so weak it’s pitiful.
Have they considered, even once, that if they don’t enjoy making art, then maybe they should do anything else? This isn’t an indictment of people not creating, it’s saying why make something unless you enjoy making it?
PS: mind you, Ay Eye chuds DON’T make art, but that’s beside the point. :p
This is the core of every one of these douchebags. They wanna “write a book”, be an “artist”, or whatever but they believe that the effort to do so or to improve your skills is a hindrance to getting there. Rather than part of the process. They are also the people that call creative works content.
Work is only a burden when it's an obligation, I almost feel bad for people who will never understand the fulfillment that comes from working for passion. Almost, because they are still trying to steal our jobs, lol
The hard stuff is what makes it worth it. The favourite song our school choir did, the one we insisted on every year, was a extremely challenging rapid round that had 5 different vocal parts and a crazy ending. You want us to sing Good King Wenceslas? You better let us do This Little Babe
I lament what folks have twisted AI into. It could have helped start folks down the path to be the next johnny cash, or sinatra.
Now we are looking at gollum. Twisted, maligned, and a vengeful evil gremlin that wants more and more in the pursuit of everything precious. We just cant have good things.
that is a man who has never known the joy of fucking around with midis. i know only the most basic things about music, but "computer make sound" is still a fun enrichment activity. you don't gotta put 10k hours into an instrument to have fun with music!
Wow...just fucking WOW. Makes me wonder if there's anything this guy enjoys in life. Probably would build a robot to jerk him off because he doesn't enjoy it enough to bother with the work himself.
Well, some kids are forced to do so for reasons of 'enrichment' or to buff a college application. There are many ways to kill a kid's creativity in the service of ambition, and this is definitely reading like a guy who doesn't understand joyful creation.
"weeeh i dont wanna spend time and energy to hone a skill because its BORING i just wanna be good at it and get praise of it without any enjoyment or effort" we should start burying these ppl alive

Yet finding where to start, to learn that skill, impossible anymore. Especially with the quagmire AI has made it out to be.
Dream well, and treasure your passions closely in dark times.
One of my friends enviously said, "No wonder you're so chill, you just sit around strumming a guitar all day"
I wasn't & I didn't, but she wasn't wrong that it was soothing.
